You hit it there in exactly one word: trust Without trust, it CANNOT work. You have to trust that the person at home is paying the bills etc.
You have trust that neither party is .. um.. doing things he shouldn't.

Without trust, the whole thing *will* come apart

    I'm with gas hauler...

305 miles out, 305 miles back, unloading 30 minutes: 29 actually...

610 X .40 = $244.00 plus $25.00 for unload... $269.00 waterloo iowa to sioux falls south dakota and return... 10 hours + 30minutes to refuel so I can go to green bay tomorrow... : )

was home at 2p.m. and don't need to be back til 7a.m. tomorrow...

out loaded and back empty the same day... I love life !!!

otr don't pay any better, if it even pays this good for most.

noting you can do but prove them wrong.

The real thing to worry about is not what they say, but how much your GF believes. I have zero empirical evidence, but I'd be surprised if more than - say - 30% of drivers are unfaithful

That just shows how stupid these other drivers are. I know quite a few truckers besides my hubby, and all of the ones that have a significant other are completely faithful. Tell you gal to pop over here, if she's not already.

I'll second Lilbit on this -- get your girlfriend here on this forum. She'll get tons of support from not only other truckers' wives, but reassurance from reading what the male drivers have posted as well.

ok fine i didnt think anyone was going to go into this farther so ill rephrase local work that is around where i live. I work my ### off and on a 60 hour week i only bring home $625. I know that yes there are very good local jobs there just verw few and far between.

I am a OTR driver. I am also a happily married, christian man. It takes trust from both mates. I trust my wife as we have been together a long time. She trusts me as well. I also am a very outgoing person. I joke around a lot and clown around, but have no intentions of doing anything that would jeopordize my realtionship with my wife or daughter. I am a veteran and have deployed twice. The 2nd time I deployed I had a wife and kid. I am the same no matter where I go in the CONUS or in theater in another country. If you let doubt creep into your relationship or if there is a trust issue trucking is not good for a relationship. If you have a good relationship trucking makes it more precious because the time together is more quality. I would advise all couples to watch the movie fireproof.
