Not easy just means I have a challenge in front of me. I'm not afraid or reluctant to work for it. Is there a decent amount of flatbed companies that will take on newbies?

  3. As stated above, find a flatbed outfit that is hiring.

Work you ### off tarping and chaining different types of loads.

Adverse weather for 4 years min.

Then consider heavy if and only if you've done your time.

The ONLY way you will get experience is in a truck hauling loads.

Don't turn down any loads ever Do everyone no complaints.

    Good luck

Stop by Earl Paddock in Stoney Creek. Scott will probably start you out working local, but if you show promise, he has no problem moving you up as you can handle it. We run flats, steps, rgns, rolltites, and vans. Also seem to be doing bigger and bigger all the time. We run some nice trucks and cover pretty much the whole continent right out of your backyard. Also, i know they do take a few fresh guys every year and give them a chance to work your way up. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Or do it like I did.

Learn to drive from a heavy haul company. Start driving for a heavy haul company, and get your own truck and drive for a heavy haul company.

The only other trucking I've really done is dairy, handful of refrigerated loads, and some short-term step-decking.

3 years trucking, about 2 of them would be heavy haul/ oversize.

Start out flatbedding and learn proper securement and how to drive a truck first. Then you can move into the oversized.

I worked for a construction company when I was wet behind the ears. Very little driving experience. Before I knew it I was hauling 120,000 pound dozers down the two lanes running wide open. I didn't have a clue what I was doing but figured out pretty quick that it wasn't rocket science.

When you can be as comfortable handling the truck as you are walking, then start looking for something interesting to haul. And dust off the old science books and get familiar with the basic laws of physics. Gravity, friction, motion, acceleration, etc. A good understanding of physics will be a tremendous help.
