Happy Hour
A guy walks into a bar and asks the bartender how much for a cup of coffee. The bartender replies: "Two cents."
The guy thinks it's a joke and asks: "Ok, how much for a beer?"
Bartender replies: "Two cents."
The guy gets angry: "And the steak dinner? How much?"
Bartender replies again: "Two cents."
The guy has had enough of the joke and says: "Can I speak to the manager?"
Bartender replies: "No, he's upstairs with my wife."
Guy: "What is he doing with your wife?"
Bartender: "The same thing I'm doing to his business."
How does this happen?

the trailer had been stolen from the company by one of our drivers at the time.
it was loaded with then, Eddie Bauer clothing.
i found the trailer alright, parked nearly in front of the Micky D's there.
cop told me, "they see trailers all day long, day after day, so the never gave that a thought"...
DUH..name, trailer number, and they kept passing by it....!!!!!!Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Sounds rotten as an old grapefruit. As usual, I don't think we're hearing the rest of the story,,

Really speaks as to our value as human beings, huh ?
Four weeks.
They had a fueling location on the 17th, and a missed appt on the 18th.
I watch enough Forensic Files to know it's a out a 95% chance he's somewhere on the highway network between those two VERY CLOSE points of reference.
Probably had a heart attack, and would have still been deceased, but FOUR WEEKS ?bzinger, buddyd157 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
are doctors available? yes, are hospitals available? yes
it's getting to them in an 18 wheeler, or even bob tail, in many areas.
back in my day, we did not have Uber or Lyft. there was of course taxi cabs, oh yeah, many of us did not have cell phones either, mostly due to the fact, they hadn't been invented yet, so now, try and find a pay phone, that was working, and not vandalized....
i used to call the wife EVERY DAY at a specif time, no matter where i was.
now back then we had long distance cards, yeah, dial 47 numbers first, THEN the number you wanted to call...by the time you did all that dialing, you were lucky the call went thru the first time, otherwise, rinse-repeat. fun times.
i'd tell the wife of my location, and where i'd be heading to and at least 2 possible truck stops i could be at, and if i missed our call, then either i was sleeping, or with a customer, so give me at least a 5 hour window, till you make calls to those truck stops.
she never had to call.
but yeah, being sick, or near death, and you're all alone, a big fear of many, not even the so-called brave, cb rambos can deny that.homeskillet and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
That's what's so appalling about the whole thing to me.
If his truck would have had a marker light out, or missing a mud flap, they probably would have found him the same day.
I have tracers on my trucks. Separate from the e-log.
But I think a cub scout working on his first merit badge could have found this guy.Deere hunter and jammer910Z Thank this. -
Then... when we got fancy... we had our very own 800 number.
I miss the days of -10° in a phone booth in Fargo with the wind whipping past the folding glass doors.
"Gotta go, Hon.. there's 2 more drivers waiting on this phone. Call you tomorrow."homeskillet, Flat Earth Trucker and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Back when I was still a desk jockey at a design and manufacturing company we had a Conway truck out at the shop, I don't know if he was loading or unloading, all I remember is that he had just gone back to his truck and one of the shop guys went out for something...#### if the driver wasn't having a heart attack right then and there. If our guy had been a minute later driver wouldn't have made it.
I remember a couple of guys from engineering went over to the hospital during the week he was there. We talked about how horrible it was that he was so far from his people at a time like that.jammer910Z and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
