Hello all,
I have read that some companies hire nationally and some hire within their local region.
So I guess my question would be - For someone looking to sign on with a company, should that companies HQ be somewhere near the residing location? Ex. I currently live in Orange County, CA, so would I need to look for a company that is near by?
Also, do companies generally have "bases" in almost every state?
Thanks. Any Help is appreciated.

It's much easier to get home if you live near a terminal. Companies tend to build terminals in areas that they have a large freight base. My company has 3 terminals and they are, respectively, 100 miles, 130 miles, and 150 miles from my house. I have no problem getting home.
-
If say you worked in Texas you could ask for a full refund of California and elect to pay state taxes of your employers address which would be 0$ since Texas has no state tax

Companies do not have bases in almost every state.Werner has quite a few terminals and drop yards. The bigger the company the more terminals they'll have. Why would you need a company that is near by?Many travel hundreds of miles to go work for a company.Werner isn't the best company but what starter company is.You might wanna call them and see where the nearest terminal or drop yard is from you.

I think most of the major starter companies have either a terminal or drop yard in the basin area. I doubt that would be a limit in your getting home.

My company is a power only contractor with Werner and they have a lot of loads that we pick up in Laredo that go to Southern California. You'd have no trouble getting home I'd say.

you need to worry about more where you want to drive
and what kind of freight you want to haul
some national companies let you take the truck home
then you could go to work for DHE and run the 5 from one end to the other
with terminals all up and down the coast -
Okay. I think I understand now.
So it doesn't really matter where you live because most companies will either let you take your truck home or there will be a terminal or drop yard somewhere relatively close by.
Thanks for all the help.
I'm looking at hauling either "reefer" or dry-van OTR (or possibly tanker, but I still need to do research on that).
I'm also looking for a company that has "in-house" training. I read that I can probably get my CDL permit before I start with a company, but I'll definitely need training for the driving part. The "stay or pay" contracts don't bother me because I believe I should stick with the first one for a year anyway.
As far as location of my "home" I'm kinda flexible. Like I said, I'm in CA right now but may move back to TX because of the better affordability. -
I work for Jb HUnt, Based out of Lowell Ar , based out of St Louis Mo, and Mcgregor tx is where I start off at.

Got it. Thanks again everyone. All of you have been very helpful.
