Commuting depends on where you do it.. I'm a country boy I used to travel 55 miles to work daily it took 50 minutes guy I worked with travelled 14 miles but through the city it took him the same or longer to the trip .. Main thing I found was run posted or less saved a lot of fuel and stress and only added minutes to the commute

Congrats on freeing yourself from the cell known as the sleeper berth! Too bad about the commute, though. It will be worth it unless you are the type who loves OTR. Good luck on your new gig.

Magoo is right--commutes differ greatly. 15 miles through metro area combat zones or backroad two-lane highways with 730 million stoplights and oblivious drivers, can be way more stressful than 90 miles of mostly abandoned interstate highway.

I used to drive 90 miles each way to work, in a low-stress interstate commute, but I stayed in a trailer all week to avoid 100 miles through mountainous two-lane back roads. There's really more to it than distance.

I used to drive a water truck out here in the oilfield. 40 miles to work, 12 hours of misery, then 40 miles home. Get up at 2, leave at 3, work 4 to 4. Nights really sucked. I rarely made it home without having to stop for a snooze. One of my friends dozed off going home after a night shift and hit a van head on, killed him and the other guy. Bad deal

Yep. I was gonna say be careful on the drive home. We have a guy who had to change to another bid because 12 hour days plus an hr commute each way was wearing him out and causing him to doze off on the way home. Take a nap if you need to.

2 miles. I do it once a week
My poor little pickup managed to ring up about 1,500 miles last year including my running around when I was home. Rest of the time was on the scoot.
