I agree and the difference between a 5 mpg truck and a 9 mpg truck running 120,000 miles a year each with fuel at $4 per gallon is almost $43,000 in fuel that would take alot of miles at a lower profit percentage for the 5 mpg to make up in a years time that is if could even make up the difference with more miles that I doubt it could close without a team driving the truck.

Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly...

That said mine can fly 130 but she mostly flys about 70-75-80 if you know what I mean.. I tend to stick to 4-5+ the speed limit but I start letting the right foot lighter on the pedal more and more all the time

107,000 gross weight every load, and drive the speed limit mostly. Lots of pto time and exta drag of 6 axles.

Winter 5.3 mpg , summer 5.7 mpg.... Sucks but real work takes fuel I guess...........

Now, throw in a fuel price spike... $5, $6... $8 a gallon. All it takes is something like Korea to blow up, or the Israeli's starting something with Iran...

Not saying 9 mpg is impossible, but more realistically approaching 7 mpg is achievable by many and $21,500 is nothing to sneeze at over a little bit of effort and inconvenience. My recent trade to a 1 mpg better truck (working on 2 mpg!) and more aggressively shopping fuel will cover the additional purchase cost of this truck.

There's a lot of company drivers that make a lot more on their (not thier) paychecks also. Now if you haul dedicated feathers all of the time then you can base your comment on such. Like most out here your weight, weather conditions, etc. are all variables in figuring your operating costs.
Besides the faster I get from point A to Point B means more rest and a safer driver with more hours available, 10 dash 4. Do you have to cheat on your logs running 55 mph in a 75 mph state?

I don't agree with any of that. The safety guys will point out that accident rates go up with increased speed- so it's hardly safer. In addition, most drivers find that as they slow down, the very act of fighting traffic goes away. It's much easier to maintain an average speed closer to a cruise control setpoint of 55 mph, than it is to keep your average speed closer to higher setpoints. And the stress you feel while driving those higher speeds goes away. There's a lot of advantages to running slower. Do I cheat on my logs when running slower? Not a chance, I'm on elogs and it works out just fine. Now that being said, if I need to run faster I can, but generally I have more than enough time to run slower and keep more of those dead presidents in my pocket.

The safety guys will tell you what to eat and drink too. So stay in the right lane and don't cut anyone off because you don't want to turn your cruise control off when you approach a slower than you truck. The only stress I have is when I come up on a truck tailgating the truck in front of them wondering when they are going to cut me off not doing the speed limit. Of course you always do cut me off and you will not increase your speed to pass that 62 mph truck with your 63 mph truck in 70 mph state. If you're going to run below the posted speed limit stay in the right lane and deal with the stress driving under the speed limit.
Cruise Control set points? If you can't run the speed limit to begin with what's the point?
Slower traffic keep right is what your safety rep should tell you and it's what most states tell you as well, so follow the rules.
Lucky you to have more time to run slower and keep more dead presidents in your pocket. I'll bet you the more freight you haul and the faster it gets there will put more $$ in your pocket then running 55 in any state with E-Logs. Then again $100 dollar Ben Franklin wasn't a president like $1.00 dollar George Washington. So I'll make my Franklin's while you save your Washington's.
