Also to note, Maverick and TMC tarp 99% of ALL of their loads.... so keep that in mind when applying :biggrin_25523:

I drove a van for three years and am looking to return to the industry within the next year. I'm about to turn 50 and I've never pulled a flatbed, but I'm about 90% sure that this is what I want to do in the future.

Flatbedders seem to LIKE their job more. I also get the impression that they have to put up with crazy pickup and delivery hours less than other segments of the industry. You wait a few times at a warehouse for 10-20 hours...let's just say it gets a little frustrating.

The freight looks like it would be much more enjoyable to pull rather than a load of toilet paper as well.

I'm not as 'experienced' in the age department as you, but it's catching up fast.

Good Luck in what you choose to do!

What you said is true. Im a reformed reefer puller lol Started flatbedding in Sept of last year. Got my own truck in Oct. I dont normally tarp, but Im lucky. My buddy who also posts on here tarps A LOT. lol Once you get at it for awhile, the tarps arent that bad. Mine weigh round 100 pounds, but I rarely do more than move them from trailer to trailer.

They tarp most of the loads where I work too, at least a smoke tarp. I don't think that tarping is all that bad if your tarps are rolled up correctly and they fold out over your load without you having to mess around.

    Tarping, blah.
Of course, if you insist on giving these that "first class" treatment, then you may need bigger tarps.....:biggrin_25525:
