i will also say, with authority, that there are guys here that were hired as dock/cdl combos that are making over $1000 a week gross because they come in early, work the dock for a few hours, THEN go out and do a run.....or 2. i think averaging close to 12 hrs a day. So, $17.40 X 40 = 696 20hrs OT X $26.10 = $522. 696+522 = $1218. Granted, a 60hr workweek is no picnic, but where else can you make that AND be at home everynight, weekends off?

Not trying to steer you here. Jess saying......

I was wondering, does your years as a P&D driver transfer over to linehaul, or do you have to start all over again? It would suck if you put in over 2 years, and then have put in anouther 4 to reach top rate.

It was meant more towards UPS. FXF I think has more nonunion terminals than union, although I could see them all eventually turning union if the teamsters really push the issue.

No the seniority progression in terms of time is the same irregardless of job classification---i.e., dock, city driver, road driver, clerical etc.

For example, if i start off as clerical, my pay wouldn't be the same---i think it starts off at $14. But let's say after the 4th year i get my cdl and want to switch to driving. Since i've reached my 4th year of senority---which is how long it takes to reach top pay rate for any position, then my pay would jump to $27 same as if i drove all 4 years.

    P.S. In 3 months i reach 2nd year anniversary, thus right now i'm making .47cpm because i've done 1.5 years. .50cpm is 2 years, 3 years is .60. 4 years is presently .69cpm.

    P.S.
i would like to say one more thing about the $17/hr thing; i think if you're single and have no big expenses like kids, a high-mortgage and several car payments, i think you can do it.

If you have any or all of the above, i would think very carefully about UPSF and all the others who start off low.

We had two guys start off, they were great workers, but both decided to jump ship over to Dominos Pizza. Now, both make over 2K per week. Benefits are also vastly superior to UPSF(which has pretty darm good benefits to begin with). For example 100% 401K match vested immediately!

Makes me wonder why i'm not over there.........

Money isn't everything. I've had guys bash me for "only" making $50k a year. Sure I could make more but it would be a lot more bs and more work. I'm home every night, bills are paid. Some guys will run hard until they go to retire and realize they're too old or sick to do what they wanted to do when they retired. You gotta do what you love now.

Yes, money isn't everything. i don't have to worry about searching for a parking spot everynight. i sleep in my own bed and haven't slept this good since probably grade school. Plus my back feels better (knock on wood) because i'm out of the truck often.

The Dominoes gig i mentioned above pays phenomenal but i hear it's non-stop teams and somewhat demanding physical labor.....

    herring22 and Dominick253 Thank this.
