The steer weight on mine is right at 10 empty. Doesn’t really change much. So with motor trans hood axle etc missing I’d say around 4.

a good rental skytrack will go a lot farther than a yard type lift. Much more versatile too. Chain the axles to the frame pick the whole ######## up and back under it. A hood boom truck be an ideal tool as well. Course if it was me I’d run a good timber across the back of my truck. Lift the down truck back under it and chain them together. Cage brakes and let it rip. May still have pull stacks etc. A wrecker will work in that instance. Usually about 500 to sit it on.

No motor trans etc a 5th wheel toter would work well, Jack it up block it then hook it those can usually be rented on the 500 scale. Sometimes it’s better off to spend a little money up front rather than spend a wad toting #### around you borrowed or stole lol.

I’ve drug a bunch home in that shape very similar. I’ve even used a detach as well. Just dragging what’s left of what’s there seems easier in my opinion

I know a forklift would be useless where the truck is now, the guy has equipment I can use to load it on the step deck.
Problem is where I’m going to unload it. The truck is going immediately to the back burner(ish) on my undeveloped land that’s basically a cutover with a narrow driveway running down the middle, leaving a narrow black top, aka the step deck won’t be able to get in there whatsoever. One of my plans was to pull the truck off the step deck at the end of my driveway on the asphalt, then use said forklift to swing the front of the truck across the road to line it up with the driveway. Forklift probably wouldn’t even do #### with my driveway, from some of the stupid places I’ve seen them stuck. Asphalt only was my concern

I been doing some serious brainstorming and piggy backing came to mind like you mentioned. I dunno how a timber would work in my case cause I’d need to back in on a hard turn, I was thinking if I had something rigged up to use the fifth wheel, like an old trailer pin/plate with some securment points to chain the dead truck on.

Tractor only. My engine is roughly 3000 pounds, then deduct steer axle, hood, trans, radiator…..

I'm not talking about a "forklift", I am talking about an Off Road Forklift, what we have in the company is like this one. Ours has a capacity of 20k.

My bad when I said a forklift would be useless there, I meant the little 5k style forklift.

what you showed there is actually similar to what I have to load the truck with, an old offroad sellick. Not sure the capacity but probably 15-20k. Shouldn’t have any issue pushing that Pete up the ramps.

I built a removable king pin just for that kind of stuff. Piece of 10” wide c-channel with hole cut in middle. Weld king pin thru hole. C-channel is made to be strapped on the bottom side of frame with u-bolts. Lift it up just enough to back fifthwheel under it. Lock it in and go. Pull it like a trailer.

I was curious if anyone’s cooked up something like that. I was thinking angle iron welded on to bolt to the side of the frame but yours sounds simpler. Don’t suppose you have a picture?

This is the one I have behind the shop now. White-WesternStar frames. Alum one is a ‘80 year model and 24’-2” long. With the stands I built I can back under it anytime to move it. I’ve pulled them from place to place with frames stacked four or five high.

That’s perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.
Wonder how the dot would feel about me rolling down the road with one of those holding a 379 to me. Sounds like an after darkness job lol
