How is my friend making a consistent $750-$1000 after taxes driving for swift being new?

Pretty much, like I said it is one of the easiest gigs at Swift and one that is most requested.

OTR at Swift is far more work, more risk, more stress, more of everything with less pay.

Most of the Swift Walmart DC's are begging for drivers and will take just about anybody. They regularly shanghai OTR drivers who just happen to be in their area and try to get them to haul Walmart grocery loads. If you suddenly find Macro 30 doesn't work anymore for some reason you are probably about to get a call from a Walmart DC.

Why on Earth are you asking this question here? Ask any Swift Walmart dispatch office. They'll probably interrupt you and ask your truck number and you'll be a Walmart driver before you even consent to it.

Sorry if I sound bitter, but it's just frustrating seeing how consistently he is getting paid and getting paid quite well, while I'm hauling inconsistently all over the country and sometimes being stranded in the middle of nowhere while waiting for a load or being stuck in heavy snows storms despite us both graduating at the same time.

Have you asked any one at Swift or are you just quietly getting pissed?

How about you post where you live so one of us Swifties can tell you which Walmart DC is a Swift account and who you should contact.

The dedicated Walmart at Swift is super easy.
Pick up a loaded trailer at DC drive to 3 to 4 stores and pull stickers while they unload.
Even if something falls over we technically weren't required to help restack.

    Usually reefer, occasional dry loads.
Most of the dry loads were pulled by Walmart Trucks.

If there isn't a backhaul, go back and do it again depending on miles and stuff.

I used to do it for Swift out of Harrisonville MO.
You will get plenty of backing practice. Although most stores will be easy (they are not Dollar Trees)

If it's such a sweet and easy job that pays so great, why do they have to "plead" for drivers to come over? I know Walmart isn't adding new stores ad breakneck speeds any more. Something does not compute. Answer that question and I'll shut up

Correct, but Swift is still a company with 100% turnover. That ridiculously high turnover is going to bleed over into even the best account at Swift.

Like I said is a job within a job. You can't keep the dedicated staff happy you will be let go. If you cannot adhere to Swifts rules you will be let go.

And, all accounts surge. Even at a dedicated they will cut off some of the dead weight after the seasonal surge.

Then of course you know it is Swift. If your rotating out employees as often as Swift does, the percentage of deadheads you get, even at a dedicated account, is going to be greater.

In some localities, it is not hard to get dedicated Walmart at Swift. Any fool can request it and get on. In other area you better be darn good at polishing a knob.

No need to shut up. I appreciate your input.

You have to stand around inside and pick stickers off the pallets as they come out. And you pretty much do the same thing every day. That's about it. There are lots of drivers who are OK with this life and love to be on the Walmart account. I'd have to agree it is easy money and when I did it I made a little more than I did as an OTR driver. I hated it though. I did it five times during the four years I was at Swift, but never for more than two or three weeks at a time.
