After getting a couple of years experience I want to start my own fleet. I was wondering if anyone ever used this Prime program and if it was profitable for them? Also how deep was their fuel discounts?

Read the forums on why people don't recommend Prime.

He will also read on how some actually made things work as well , not everything is NEGATIVE
Mark Falcone, Falcone and Marlin46 Thank this. -
I know a number of single-truck owners who work on the "logistics side." They run under their own authority which allows them to access Prime's freight network running loads on Prime trailers, as well as take advantage of their own loads. The fuel program is the same one that all of the Prime associates and lease operators use. In-network discounts are quite good... you just have to find the best base price along your route from either a canned macro or analyzing the data on the fuel web page. TA/Petro is cost plus, for example.MothaTrucka69 Thanks this. -
Independent contractors can also build a fleet of trucks within Prime using Prime's authority. It's a bit tricky, but it is doable. I know several 10 truck companies that are running under Prime's numbers.

That's a pretty rig... Thats yours?

The only tough thing about the program is you have to screen your own drivers. Background, DMV, and drug tests can be pricey. What's the cheapest way to get this done? How do you develop a safety department within your company? Do you contract out for things like this?

If you have your own authority you have to do everything. If you build the fleet under Prime's authority, Prime will do all of that stuff. That's your 8% at work.....
