Those numbers are very possible, especially if he put his time in and did his homework/legwork. I came close to that when I had my first truck but it was seasonal which was fine by me. If your wise with your money you can appreciate the slow times without a care in the world.
Your uncle is charging short haul rates and brokers will pay 4 or 5 a mile for a 50 mile run so long haul at 2 bucks a mile don't apply here he obliviously gives good service doing what others don't want to do is my guess
I would agree with this completely. Based on your additional information. The trucking industry is huge. Some niche market can produce huge income without forcing you to live like a hobo. So yes I say he he has got a sweet deal. Hard to find this type of thing starting out. Maybe he can hook you up down the road. Ask him if you could ride along once. My best customer came after I was in business my second year. 2006. I dropped of a load to the business next door to them. One of the owners saw I was local trucker. He came out and asked for a card and showed me his product. 2 weeks later I hauled my first out bound load (I live 30 miles from the plant). I might have done 15k the first year. It's now a 100k account. And growing. In 3 years I think it could be near 200k. Rate is about 3.00 pm 12 to 16k weight no tarp. They pay when I ask. +/- 2 days from pickup date. I am not some grizzled vet. I only started in 2005 no experience with my own Authority. Self taught 100%. But this business nearly broke me also. So take nothing for granted. You can get a great gig, sometimes it's luck to find it. But hard work keeps it. Sometimes you can search for years and never get a deal like your uncle's. A streak of bad luck or a big mistake and this industry can break the toughest o/o. Yes he is doing just what he is saying IMO.
I can tell you precisely how he does it, sort of. If he "mentioned Vegas".... As we speak, there are a handful of manufacturers about an hour out of Vegas who conservatively have at least 150+ 53ft conex delivered each day. One of them I know for certain is paying $1,100 per box for something like 350 mlies. That same shipper is paying $350 for a 53' van to take their manufactured products to the DC in Vegas, and another $1,000 for a 53' van from the DC to a cross docking warehouse outside the Port of LA, right up the street from where the conex's are picked up. This is a seven day a week operation. So yeah, I can see $2,000 net. Source: My uncle is their comptroller.
Wow I cant believe the naysayers, its POSSIBLE TO MAKE $2000 A week -Just because yall never did it-doesnt mean it CANT B DONE. as long as you try and do RIGHT by OTHERS, dont try and SCREW OVER NOBODY- And keep GOD 1st the SKY IS THE LIMIT! O wait IM SORRY SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY THINK THEY BOUGHT THAT BIG NICE HOME, MET A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN PAID FOR THAT BIG O WEDDING, HAD WONDERFUL KIDS WITH NO HEALTH PROBLEMS WHEN BORN &MAKE$ 100,000 a year -----magically all by themselves..but then AGAIN ,, HEY IM JUST A DUMB OL TRUCKDRIVER-WHAT DO I KNOW ?
I beg to differ, my family pulls containers in Chicago, 4:00,am to 3:00 pm , home every day, and my uncle and two cousins are making $1500-2000 net per week...I used to BE there banker, so I knew EXACTLY, what was coming in and out monthly......
Correction. You knew what was hitting their bank account every week. It was not their net. Lots of drivers incorrectly call it that but the truth is much of that money is spoken for by expenses. This is where most get into trouble because they get misled into thinking about big money not realizing that. You can't get a $k2,000 settlement and go spend all that money on New furniture. Actually know of someone who did that sort of thing and went out of business quickly. $1,500-$2,000 settlements are really nothing to get excited about anyways I consider it on the low end of a work week even if miles/hours are kept to a minimum. I remember at the flat mileage rate company I used to be leased to how I was slowly bleeding out and going broke on consistent $2,000 settlements every week. Just because someone is getting those settlements doesn't mean they're profiting guarantee you most are slowly going broke. And lucky they have a wife with a good job who helps support their expensive trucking hobby.
