Better give him more credit than that. He was the banker. The one you see for every big purchase you make unless you're sitting on a big wad of cash. With one simple search on his CPU he can pull up gross and net by month. My banker sees everything in and out of my account and what he don't see will be told by my credit score. He wants a copy of my taxes each year for their records for future loans and obviously a copy of my p&l with the application for new loans. A good banker will pay attention to a customers account and know these things so they can know how much business they can do together.

    RERM Thanks this.

when I was a dispatcher at a company with a big fleet of owner ops. I was amazed that guys would be paid Thurs and by Mon they would be asking for an advance to buy used tires or minor repairs

I've read many of your posts, so I know your very knowledgeable, however, before getting into this industry, I did 5 years due diligence, I know, each local market has it's own quirks, cost of living dictates some of this, (as do capacity and demand) Chicago has 5 major railheads and access to dam near anywhere on earth (rail, land, water or air)....moving containers there can be quite more profitable than in most other markets.

I'm not saying it's the same everywhere....or that I'm anywhere near as knowledgeable as you. But I do know numbers as I made my living that way for 13 years......as for longevity, my uncle's been trucking for 36 years, his son for 12 and my other cousin for 5.....trust me, their not rich, but their far from broke. Their business model may not be your cup of tea, (I'm not sure it's mine)....but there's many long time drivers in Chicago, (and elsewhere) doing it....

2k per week is nothing in Cali for an o/o been head of a family with house ect.... Also after he lives a long time there he probably has a lots of connections there based on his Spanish mostly. Three years almost every week I have been there, i know how important is to speak Spanish for any business is.

Looking at my settlement for 26 days, $6976. This includes about 12 days at home, to lazy to go thru and count but I leave 1 day early if i can, so could have been, even if its not. This figure doesn't include maybe $50 in weekly expenses, or truck maintenance. I pull a out of SC leased to a small carrier (120 trks). That is the numbers off my check, so fuel and trailer rent, everything but what I listed is taken out. Now I could make more than this but everything but my Investment property is payed for ( that pays for it's self ) so I'm semi-retired (get it?). Before you flip out on not including maintenance cost, My 50'x60', truck shop is payed for, I have 2 A.S.E. Masters, and my 02 379 is completely rebuilt including my 700 HP C-15. My brake drums for example were $250 with my discount. I use the best parts available. If I did have an unexpected expense, I can put $24000 on my credit card at at 3% for a year.My spare 379 has a fresh engine in it also. I never pull anything over $2 to the truck, usually $1.5. I hate $3 stuff because it is going somewhere that pays less than $1. If they are quoting that there are twice as many trucks as loads, so you a likely deadheading a ways. I pull a reefer (3 yr old or less) and do about 2600 miles. D&H on home end and usually live load on the other. My advice is learn to work on your truck, shops charge at least $100 an hr, you will never make that trucking. I went back to trucking 11 yrs ago, before that I was production manager at an engine re builder. Which is the other reason to learn mechanical skills, when trucking go's to crap, (oh it will, been driving some kind of truck since 1970) repair work gets busy, less guys buying new. Oh and buy a 2002 or older truck.
