The biggest problem we have as a country is the same thing that cause the Great depression, FEAR. When the greed of Wall street drove the price of fuel through the roof fear began to create an economic domino effect. High fuel cost lead to less spending in other areas. Which lead to less need for product, which meant less need for goods and labor, which lead to less people with money to spend which lead to more fear and more cut backs in spending. Obama and congress's biggest challenge to recover from these economic times is to create confidence in the consumer. Instead of laying people off they need to cut back on management pay and managements excesive spending.
As was posted by another member the news media is a huge problem in that they feed the fear rather than promoting confidence.

I'm dreading January, All the trucks that usually haul auto parts will be hauling general freight. And most of those companies haul it cheap, usually at a loss to keep their trucks moving.

Our state rate is higher than the city, and will be going up some since the Janesville GM plant just put another 1,200 + out of work, and two other businesses closed that were suppliers for the plant.

Fear is driving this economy now. No one is at the wheel.
Many of our businesses (small) have never seen tough times. Many of them, have never thought of saving for a rainy day. Their business depends on people spending their entire check every week, instead of saving for the future.
Now people are too scared to spend their entire check, they're saving for a perceived collapse (albeit too late for most). Which in turn, will take out this generation of new small business owners. Who like many of their customers, have been living like there was no tomorrow.
Well, tomorrow finally got here. Now it's time to pay the bill.
Thankfully, I have been willing to do without most of my life. It just seems like another day to me. But I'm also very well prepared.Wiseguywireless Thanks this. -
Madison usually runs around 2% if I remember right
-
Madison itself is pretty low. They talked about it this morning on the local news, and it's just over 3% right now. Pretty darn low.

I've been watching the help wanted ad's from there,...I haven't seen much over about 12 bucks an hour,....Tuff to live in Mad Town on that...

There isn't much of anything around here right now. See a lot of ads for headhunters and 'get rich quick' schemes, but not much open in the way of real jobs.
After some of our latest experiences at the TA, I'm actually contemplating putting in an app there for part time. I could do better after a day of training than some of the clueless wonders I've seen out there lately!
