    I maybe easy but I ain't cheap!

My worry with Walmart is that in 4-6 years from now it would make sense to start outsourcing more and more of their loads to subhaulers and finally do away with in house drivers altogether. Walmart has already said they would love to have automated trucks and DC. I think we could be there in the next decade.
Getting rid of their drivers early would eliminate the PR nightmare of laying off workers in favor of machines. They'd only be changing subhaulers for automated trucks. No PR problems there. Also they can shift there equipment cost from conventional to automated.
The one hope I see is if they want to do the automated trucks in house and want a person ready to take over incase the computer has issues.

The dedicated carriers they have now prove every day that the private fleet is the best way to go. These dedicated guys could screw up a organized train wreck.

I remember the picture of two of our outside carriers with four of our trailers wrecked in a construction zone going around a few years back.

The caption read, "You get what you pay for."

Getting rid of a private fleet is a double-egded sword.

They would save money when freight rates are low, but they have a huge need for volume being the largest retailer. They would get completely reamed-out during periods when rates go up.

The private fleet makes transportation costs more stable over time.

That’s what we’ve been talking about.
I could tell you doozies about the stores. Like they’ve been on Prozac since they were 12.
