Well since they started the CDL I've had to retest on all endorsements every time I renewed the CDL! Now as I understand some states have haz-mat tied in with tanker. But I know GA, AL and MO all have you redo every endorsement you have. They charge for each test $25 in each of the three I've held a CDL in and don't see any of them changing that money horse! A 25 question test for $25 bucks! What a deal for the state!

Just go to your states highway patrol page and look for the costs and tests for their drivers licenses.

And Michelangelo, you've been driving 4 years and you've taken the CDL tests how many times? Do you have more than Haz-Mat on your CDL?

Well I have been driving for 18 years and have never re-taken anything but the Haz-mat. Have held CDL's in CO. ID. AK. and AL which I just move to last summer. All I had to do in AL is pay them the $25 and they gave me my CDL. No testing for anything. As soon as I get My TSA letter I'll go get the the Haz-Mat test done.

Taken CDL tests once--in May 05.

Got Hazmat and doubles in Summer 07.

Renewed my CDL in AUG08 (on my Bday)--much to my suprise, my Hazmat wouldn't automatically renew, but the double/triples did.

Retested for Hazmat last Spring, and re-did the fingerprinting BS.

Got Tanker last month. I don't know if that automatically renews, but I know the double/triples did!

Also, they sort-of combined the tanker/hazmat letter as an "X"

It's kind of funny, all these endorsements, and I've only actually used the Hazmat.

Only have to re-test for hazmat in Texas too. They still charge you the fees for all the endorsements but don't have to do any but pay to keep them.

Well darn! I guess it'll be cheaper when I renew next year in Oct 2011! My last time it was $25 for the CDL then $25 for tanker, and $107 for the background check for Haz-Mat! But we do have to take each test to renew! The CDL covers general knowledge and the air brakes and then another 25 questions on the tanker.

Forget doubles! If they think I'll pull 2 trailers for the price of one they aren't cooking on all their burners! 2 trailers to me means double the pay! Why do these guys pull them for free? Heck after a week of saying no and refusing to pull 2 for the price of one someone might just rethink the pay scale! Oh sorry I nodded off there and was in dream land!

I have a lady friend who lives in Peoria and shes been driving for several years with a CDL that she failed the air brakes section and still got the License. She quit a job got another and did the same thing again and when she went to another company and they paid her to drive out to MN and sat in orientation they figured out that she didn't have air brakes on the plastic and sent her home! IL must be stupid! Giving a CDL with a separate test just for Air Brakes! The funny part is she has failed the test 2 times! Heck here if you fail the air brake questions and still pass enough of the other general knowledge questions you pass the CDL! Some things I just don't understand! Whats so hard in the air brakes section?
