since august, pressure has been building. first is was just faster speeds, more freight moving, more money to be made. but it's been getting tighter, memorial day weekend, thanksgiving. people getting faster, more impatient, more hostile. i used to be able to anticipate idiots before they would get a chance to pin me into a corner, and once i was moving they'd go around or decide to let me...not die. but lately, as in the last couple weeks, i swear to god they are on the hunt, like it's a game. they sit there inches from your tandems, stare at you, waiting for the perfect opportunity to get in the way, where it causes you the most trouble, and at the precise moment when it's most effective, floor the absolute peanuts out of their paper plate $1,000 salvage title to force you into a tight spot, and then speed off like a beam of light with nowhere to go, laughing at your panicked attempt to avoid catastrophe. and it's not just a few, or most of them. it feels like entire cities are out with nothing else to do than stoke chaos right now, for no apparent net gain at all. it's mindless, and I've never seen it like this.

i have no defense against that, the only effective trajectory adjustment i have in traffic is the brakes, and if you use those, it's almost to the point like you'll be responsible for the pile up behind you.

Atlanta, Denver...in 3 years OTR I've never been actually scared to be driving, because I had confidence in my own piloting abilities. But it's reaching a point lately where the inevitable accident I'm about to get into will be, by the laws of physics, impossible to avoid, due to the other drivers on the road, and I've still got delivery to make.

To the guys that have driven for a while, how long until the societal upheaval calms down again. Because I'm legit worried...for my livelihood, I want to keep driving.

It doesn't die down. It gets worse every year. There's more people so theres more drivers. A percentage of those drivers are going to be idiots. That's the bad news.

The good news is that you're dialed in to it. You're watching, you're paying attention, and you're doing everything you can to stay safe.

Resign yourself to the fact that it's a zoo out there sometimes. Sometimes? Okay, lots of times. Learn to deal with it or find another career.

straight up, a society only stays groomed when it takes out its trash. inside this political border called USA, you aren't allowed to take out the trash. the only direction a society that doesn't take out its trash is headed is down. liberty is dependant on a moral populace, in the absence of a self governing people, enforcement is made necessary to maintain order. its gonna snowball here real soon.

I get up every morning with the same thought. How many of these SOB’s are going to try and punch my clock today?

As others have said, it’s not going to get any better. You just have to learn to adjust.

By adjust I mean driving defensively at all times which you should do already, take measures to protect yourself (dashcam), and change your routing and drive times if possible.

Routing and drive times are the 2 most proactive things you can change. We have drivers that will drop straight down the 5 into LA during rush heading to Phoenix. F that!! I’m taking 58 across to the 395 and dropping down the 15. It’s 16 miles longer, but can save up to 6 hours.

that is the truth. the difference between rolling through fooksville at 0230 vs 0630 is 'nice quiet drive' vs 'someone.is.going.to.surely.die'... running nights is going back on my list of not-exactly-an-option items, I don't want to end up in jail.

I’ve had to make these adjustments almost daily for the past 2 years. I hit Seattle and LA every week. Sometimes multiple times per week. Night driving half my days out has become a way of life. It sucks, but the money is too good ;)
