If this is a regular route tell your boss to find a back haul. If you really aren't that happy I'm sure they aren't the only game in town.

Our loads are based on time, distance, and customer. Say I leave Atlanta for Birmingham for customer A and it pays $X and I get a back haul for Customer A. Now I leave Atlanta for Birmingham for customer B and it will pay a little more than customer A for 1 way. I will now get a back haul to customer A and and make half of the original $X that customer A pays. So, B + 1/2 of A = more money.
    Confused yet?

We would haul to a city and come right home a 2 hour ride. I started tell the boss to find a back haul in that area. Well he did. Now this load is the only load that pays by the ton. But I do come right by home where it goes to so it better than a dead head.

Sometimes you have to make them find you customers you can back haul to. Stop asking for loads and start telling them you you need these loads.

I think you missed the point.....

Hint: it had nothing to do with being fired.

What part of percentage pay not mileage does the OP not get?

It's exactly what he agreed to upon taking the job. I'm not saying it's good or bad but if its not suiting him time to move on

Right. Percentage pay is basically the same as getting paid by the job. Not by the hour, not by the mile. It's super simple to understand in my opinion
