Hello,
I'm new to the industry and have been hired by a company and have completed their orientation. I am now just getting paid to sit in a hotel awaiting a non smoking female trainer. I realize most truckers smoke and asking for a female requires a wait, but in any ones experience, how long is this wait? I have been waiting a week already and new male students have come and go and I'm still waiting. My SDM doesn't have any new information to give me and I'm just curious if I need to just tough this out and be patient or see what other options are out there (even though what I've read there isn't any without experience). Its getting exhausting sitting around day in and day out with no idea when I'll be leaving with a trainer and its getting me worried.
Thank you for any advice

I guess my question would be to your trainer manager "Do you have ANY matching trainers out there?" If they say yes, then it could be a matter a weeks, or days, who knows. But if they don't have any, and they're waiting for someone you're looking for to decide to become a trainer, you could be in for a really long wait.
Being attentive to one's wishes in these regards is both a blessing and a curse for trainees in the "minority".sweetfee89 Thanks this. -
Thank you. The next time I speak with her I'll be sure to ask that. That might definently give me an idea if they even have someone that fits my criteria to train me.

What's wrong with training with a man? They will put you up in a hotel night.

Maybe just ask for a female trainer and try to tough out the smoking part.
I smoke but my truck does not smell like it...Also when I train a non-smoker I use my electric cigarette.....just to be polite to the trainee...sweetfee89 Thanks this. -
I thought about that as well. I just don't know if I want to take that chance. I figured, hey windows could be open but then it gets cold. I generaly do not have a problem with smoking as long as its in the open air and I'm not breathing it. If I was sure my trainer was going to use an electric cigarette I'd jump on that trainer.

Genrerally there is no problem with a male trainer. I got taught how to drive by all males and most of them smoke. I've just heard plenty of horror stories about some guys hygiene just being unbarable. Its trucking and I know showers are not guarenteed. I'm fine with that but there's a line. Also I don't want to be put in any position that I'll just keep saying to myself, suck it up so I can get my training hours and move on to get my own truck and do my own thing. I want this experience to be comfortable and I don't want to have to call my SDM and wait all over again for someone else. But with this wait I have thought about training with a male and hoping he's like my school instructors.

Wait for trainer you want. Love to see anyone tell a Driver/Trainer that their smoking in their own HOME is not good. Come on!! Be honest to the lady. But sure there are some decent male trainers that don't smoke and wouldn't make moves on ya. Good luck and welcome to the Trucking Industry.

Thank you. I've thought the same thing but have had wavering thoughts about what I should do and if I'm patient enough to wait. I want to wait and get the "right" trainer. Paience I hear is a virtue and I hope it pays off.

Doesn't make sense why they don't know. They for sure have Qualcom and know where their Lady Trainers are at and where heading. Plus they in touch daily with their/your Trainer MGR. Have to have patience but to be directly lied to I despise myself. Do what you think is right for you. Wish you the best of luck .
