In 1970, Tri-State Motor Transit union drivers went on strike for "third dispatch and home", implying that they should be paid hourly until they got home if their fourth load did not take them past the house. Needless to say, the company could not afford it, and Tri-State has been non-union ever since. I got out just before the strike. Their average length of haul was about 1,000 miles. Only Frozen Food Express had a longer average haul in those days at 1,200 miles.

There's no law, or set rule on how long a driver can stay on the road. Different companies will have different policies on MINIMUM time, but not max. 1 day at home for every 6 days out is common. With 2 weeks being the general minimum. I've no family, so stay on the road for months at a time.
