Yeah, but that also depends on the density and quality of the steel.

Read about a 165,900 pound load on 5 axles getting busted in Minnesota today. I'll get you the companies name, bet they'll do it cheap too.

I saw that a few times myself. Didn't look like it would have been that heavy. Hard to imagine someone would go that heavy on 5 over distance with the expectation of success.

I am guessing long ton because he said their stuff is rated for 100 ton in the shop. It's a solid chunk for a die they are going to build. Their overhead crane won't handle it.

No, a "short" ton is a US ton which is 2000 pounds, a "long" ton is British ton which is 2240 pounds, and a metric ton is 1000 kilograms which is 2204 pounds. Not much difference when taking about a single ton but when talking about 100's of tons it makes a difference.

When you deal with crane lifts as well as trailer loads you pick up these things.

According to my calculations, using 490 pounds per cubic foot for steel. At 14' wide by 1' thick the plate would be 30.5' long. Or 14'x2'x15.25' ect.

    cke Thanks this.
