No the OP got a ticket for not using I275 while carrying hazmat in Cincinnati. He attempted to go through the tunnel on I-71.

OP, I think the trucker who was eavesdropping on your conversation was just being a smart butt!

Just a little FYI about google maps and google earth, there are a few areas that haven’t been updated and you can get lost.

To the op, I don’t have my atlas here but I remember there is a list of road restrictions in it for HM.

Interesting topic. I still have every map I've acquired over the years including Canada, Europe and Caribbean islands. City, county, low underpass and scale house maps...cause I'm weird like that.
We were running 42 and 45 foot trailers and STAA wasn't born yet and the back roads were sometimes the best route.

Back when I was green it was the only way to get around besides hollering for some "local" over the CB.
To this day I really enjoy a trip that allows me some 2 lane travel.
I'm afraid the art of the map is a lost skill never to return imho.

Well you see, those of us with decades in had no other choice and to be honest it was a complete career, relying on your skills and experience.
Asking others for help and the truckstop interaction between drivers and cups of coffee...
It wasn't hell but sure made a man a complete driver.
    But to each his own.

I had an Uncle that I'd call when lost pretty much anywhere you were he could tell you how to proceed. He was amazing, can't find somewhere call him, say i am in such ans such town. He would say what are you looking at right now. AAAA there is a Dennys and a Chevron station. He would say go yadda yadda amazing memory that guy had

Now THAT'S a neat collection! I happen to love maps of all kinds. Topographic maps are still foreign objects to me. I can decipher some of what they mean though.

You ever wanna part with them, message me.

I'm 40 and have piles. Even twp maps. I mostly use Google maps as a map only. And take time to map my way. Still wrong sometimes.

Only time I seen the benefit of GPS was housing subdivisions. All brown with the same car in the driveway at night can screw you up.
