Swift starts their DM's with 25-35 for training..then moves them into 45-50 as a "regular" load board. Now with current information I received last night it appears that they could be increasing the "average" up to 75-90 per DM in selected terminals. but with Swift the "Dispatcher" is actually titled "Planner" and there are two or three "Planners" for the average terminal...but for the larger terminals...namely Phoenix and Memphis there are 5 on days and 2 or 3 at night...and the night planners are under strict guidelines what they can and can't "plan"! Wouldn't want to step on the toes of the "preferred driver group" now would we?

I was with SWIFT in 2003. My DM had about 30 to 35 trucks to deal with at the time.
As for dispatchers i dont know. I would love to hear more from their side of the story.

There is one advantage to being a trucker that has it all over other type jobs.... when a co-worker aggravates you to no end you just hop in your cab and drive on. You don't have to go to work every day looking at the SOB.:biggrin_25525:

Plus, in the cab you are free to call him or her everything you can think of without worrying about lawsuits.:biggrin_2559:

If I can't drive, I'm actually considering doing dispatch work. I have a couple years with scheduling people in pretty tricky schedules (nothing to do with trucking, however). Maybe I'll some local companies a call and see what the requirements are. Seems like I could handle it with a little training.
