This question is for experienced drivers. How many miles do you drive each day? If that figure is high how do you handle your log book? I am a new driver and am comfortable with around 550 or 600 miles a day. i know many do much more to maximize their pay but I am fine with that amount. My employer does not concur. My run is about 4000 miles round trip and I am supposed to do this with no reset. Once you add in waiting to load and unload that can be hard to do. Any advice appreciated.

I average about 400+/- a day. I log everything as I do it.
There are a few differences day to day on the front half of my day, though the return half is always the same stops. -
Anywhere from 650-720. On e-logs. All legal. 600 is a good comfort zone. I like getting as much out of the way as possible.

when i was relatively inexperienced, about 4-5 years of driving,i was running 1200-1300 + miles per day.now that i am experienced and older,i am dead after 825+/- and tired after 700+/-.if you actually drive a truck-meaning one that does what it is supposed to do-and have a run where there is lots of interstate,700 miles a day is not unreasonable plus you can get your rest and find a spot to park.
your day will be longer if you drive a truck that drops down to 45 mph everytime you hit a rise in the road,i don't care who you are.
oh yeah-550-600 mpd is not bad if you have driven thru lots of traffic pulling a heavy load.some days will be better than others but you are aware of that already.there are times that 600 a day is more than enough-
** edited to add that i too utilize, notice the verbage, loose leaf logs.I just had to add that upon reading the posts after mine!!! whup and ride driver. whup and ride-Last edited: Jul 30, 2012

depends on your route. if your driving in colorado through the mountains and sticks. 300-350. if your straight highway and it's smooth sailing. 750 - 800 tops. with naps. course, if you're like me and sometimes sleep the entire 34 at home. then that first day back out could easily go 1200 - 1300. that's how long it would take for me to get tired again. but those kinds of trips are unrealistic for our operation.
our loads average 600 - 700 miles.
now, dot uses a system called jjkeller. it has the exact amount of time it's suppoed to take you to get from point A to point B. but how the heck dot THINKS they are that smart is beyond me.
the more horsepower you have. the faster you can climb the hills. and a truck with open throttle will get there faster then a governed truck.
i don't care who dot thinks they are. no one can say how long it will take you to get there. just like no one can say that your not supposed to be here. your supposed to be there OR there instead.
we have a t600. it takes 14 hours to deliver a load to albuquerque. it's goverened at 65, and not a lot of power. my w9 takes 11 1/2 hours. it's open throttle and more power. -
I'm on loose leaf I run until I get tired, park it, then back it all up later..
If I had to put a number on it I'd say I shoot for 700 minimum, but every day is different and a lot can effect how many miles I can actually run.... -
flip flops. edit your post before Tleeheart sees it and chews your butt out. cuz he don't like people that do what they want becuase they have no box.

x#1, Flip Flops and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
My truck is elog & governed at 65, so I typically do 660-680 in a 11hour cross-country shift (best ever was 707). Depending on when my 10 falls, that may mean 850 miles in a 24-hr day...
