I want you folks to go back and re-read all the "Newbie" and "Wannabe" threads. We tell them and tell them and tell them about the hours, the miles, the pay but listen.... oh hell no.
Saddle Tramp, Jimbo60 and Skunk_Truck_2590 Thank this. -

I've read your other thread about leaving Werner and I don't think that anybody in their right mind doesn't understand and agree with your decision.
Let's face it most of the big companies have all of the resources in place already to get drivers home more.
The only reason that drivers (mostly for the big companies - there is a difference for smaller outfits) don't get home regularly is simple minded thinking on the part of load planners.

Heck, week one in my school started with 5 students, at the end of the week there were 2. The three reasons were, 1st one had money problem 2nd FREAKED when he heard he actually had to sleep in the truck and not a hotel every night....yea.... 3rd one, well, Ron White said it best "you can't fix stupid" but at least the teacher tried.

Here's the deal. First time drivers are NOT going to get paid great nor will they get treated with hardly any respect. That's been said way too many times here so there' no excuse once you start.
If you go into the job with a good work ethic and learn as much as you can then it will improve. If you go in on the other side and complain all time about everything then you'll be out in no time. You have times when you be at a place where you might need help from someone else because maybe your trainer or dispatcher is an idiot then you've got to be very diplomatic about how you go about it and remember there's many people that have a say in what you're doing.
I believe that most drivers leave the first year because they are not prepared financially. They just can not pay the bills. I also believe that there are some of those that wish they could stay. Like many of us have said before, it pays to do your research and know what you're getting into.
Those companies know what type of person it takes to run their product and the way they look at it, free labor is best. So their going to get their monies worth out of you before you quit or get fired and the best part of it they are getting paid to do it. The best a new driver can do is find a decent company and get training out of them. That's your key to success.Jimbo60, AZ CATS, SprkPlug62 and 3 others Thank this. -

Bottom line is you need money set aside to live on for at least a couple of months when you first start out. No matter how bad the company is you still gain experience and alot of new drivers do not realize that. They go in broke and come out even broker.
SprkPlug62 Thanks this. -
They should teach all those newbees how to live on the road, while they are teaching them the basic's. Take a cooler, hot plate & if you have the space a small microwave. A truck stop should be used for fuel, shower & maybe a good breakfast.
SprkPlug62 Thanks this.
