Bobtailing to buy straps now. I have 14 totes in my 53ft van. Do I need two per tote?
First time using my hazmat tanker endorsement and want to get this right.
How many straps needed per IBC tote?

I think securement goes by weight of the piece being secured and the Working Weight Limit (WLL) of the chain/strap.
You need to know weight of the cargo each strap will secure. If the totes are "single stacked down the middle of trailer, then get straps that can hold twice the weight of a loaded tote. Or two straps rated at the weight of the tote. If the totes are stacked side by side down the middle, each strap, or all straps holding those 2 totes, should have a WLL of twice (legal is 1.5) the weight of the pair.
Your straps need to have strength for at least 1.5 times the weight it is holding. So a 100 pound item needs AT LEAST 150 pounds of securement. I think the common rule of thumb is to use 200 pounds of securement, in my example. This is not my field.
This is more of a flatbed/securement question, FYI.

John Joel Glanton Thanks this. -
Did your company give you any securement training. If so call the expert at your company. They may have rules above the feds you have to satisfy.nextgentrucker and John Joel Glanton Thank this.

Landstar got me on hold. I realize now I am hauling this load just to pay for the straps I need.

Once you buy the straps you can re-use them over and over, so they will be free after this load. You can see things in a positive light or a negative light.kylefitzy, OldMainiac, beastr123 and 1 other person Thank this.

True! Just wondering if I really need 28 of them. Just bought everything Harbor Freight had. Now I’m riding around town looking for more.tscottme Thanks this.

Post a pic to Flatbed section. They know these rules front to back. If those straps don't have a WLL you may be wasting your money and time.

Not the same in a van . Single three out in the nose center line of floor, then alternate
I like they way n the right better. Put two or theee straps across they rear drawing forward on last row. For a little extra safety you could put a few straps middle point of load.gentleroger, beastr123, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this.
