There were 20 morning and 20 afternoon students. We switched back and forth for drive time. I remember a telephone pole that wanted to hit my trailer every time I turned right.
The truck was a white White. It had a bench in back where the bunk should have been.

I go back to the school when I get a free Monday about 3 times a year. I tell them the straight dope. They look at me like I am a God. Just like we did. My instructor told us there was a way to change gears without pushing in on the clutch. They had secret powers that only the selected ones knew.

They did not tell us what a Truck stop looked like. I figured that out when I tried to refuel at a gas station that sold diesel. They didn't explain weight stations to us. I figured that out as I was paying a $150 fine for driving by my first one. They did show us how to do an inspection but didn't show us the actual brakes. I know they are somewhere under all that metal but where, I don't know.

Only one guy did not complete the school and get his license. He was from Sierra Leona in West Africa. He had been struck on the head many times with a rifle butt. Blood diamonds. He could not remember things. We would teach him how to shift. It took all day but he would get it. The next day he could not remember how to do it. It was very sad. We are lucky to have our little problems.

That sounds like mine. Went to Houston Community College, took the 12 week, after work class. Had myself and three others in the class, and also, I was the only one who paid for the class.

The bad part about it was we got put in pairs on the driving track to practice backing, ect, and it is very difficult when your partner does not give spotting/teamwork full effort because they have nothing to lose.

They were in some workforce program, and really didn't take passing the class seriously. It pissed me off right, because at the time, I was poor as hell, lived in a beat up travel trailer, and still managed to pay for my class.

4 of us plus trainer piled in a KW cabover.

3 of us youngins and a old lady, we were gripping the seats when she drove!

It was raining and we were topping a hill, stop light at the bottom. "Get on the brakes going down the hill." She does, the tractor locks up. Trainer looks in the mirror and starts say, "GET OFF THE BRAKE, GET OFF THE BRAKE!!! GET OFF THE BRAKE AND GET ON THE GAS!" We all looks, trailer is up on the sidewalk coming fast. Needless to say, we never rode with her.
