    Thanks for the reply guys. There are plenty of ventures I have thought about, but none pay as good as trucking and I love trucking. Local trucking here is worthless pay even having all the endorsements. I was thinking about the lease route if I could find a walk away lease but most are aero trucks with newer style engines. That was part of my frustrations on the second go around. Even though it was a very nice T680, it had a paccar 455 and was gutless for sure. Even after the motor swap it was still horrible.

    Truck payments and maintenance go on forever. Don't do LP , drive someone one else's truck, then if you should have a problem you won't have the Bill's to deal with while You recover.

    Lease purchase is basically a truck rental. You’re paying for the truck and all the bills with someone else’s name on the title.

    My cousin does very well with his power sports shop in central South Dakota. If there’s a need in your area that could be a lucrative venture.

    But if you’re wanting to truck and can get financing for one I’d say in this up and down environment I’d be looking at a carrier with contract and dedicated freight instead of riding the spot market waves with your own authority.

    my plan is to buy out rite. truck and trl. i don't have any bills and plan to stay that way. ill have TO cross a few hurtles with my lic. but doable. I see i have some company local that ill haul for. also only 100 miles from Houston helps. And working for fedex freight for 18 years helps with contacts i have got over the years. i figure if i'm not going to die, I better get busy living.

    Oh, so it is a money thing. In your opening post, it sounded as if you and the wife were doing well and so I was under the impression that you just had diesel in your blood. I didn't think that was smart. If trucking wrecked your health, I'd find something else to do. But if it is a money thing, well...you gotta do what you gotta do.

    Luck in battle, hand.

    I don't get it, you were smart enough to make enough money to retire at 46 but, you want to buy another truck?

    @TripleSix no it's not a money thing, we are good. I have diesel in my blood for sure, been doing it for to many years lol. I was just saying there are other ventures I have though about, but they dont pay as well. Wife wants me to build a shop (40k ish) and equip it and go back to build and repairing atv, sxs, and 4x4s since I'm well known in the industry here. However, I'm not gonna be bringing in 1500-2k a week clear and will have more tied up in it on my property also.

    @p608 I actually retired at 38

    There’s two kinds of truckers out there today. Truckers who make it a lifestyle, and Those who just use truck driving as a means to get somewhere else in life. I.e. save up to start a business, build up a little more retirement, whatever the case might be. You can’t really get trapped in the truck driving like some people claim. Because if you hate it, you’re just not gonna do it for more than a couple years maximum. You have to love truck driving to do it for life. I’ve been driving for two years and four months and I still haven’t decided which I am yet.

    Why risk what money you have left? If you have the bug to drive, get a regional job with a carrier and let them have all of the headaches.
