I've got a side door on on my sleeper, I'll set the bin with water on my bed and go outside and dump it, or if I'm somewhere parked by myself- I fling the door open and dump it while inside the bunk.
99% of the water goes in the bin while showering but I'll lay my dirty clothes out on the floor to catch any overspray.
I always rinse the bin out after its dumped.
A gallon of water gets the job done, then maybe an extra quart to brush my teeth and rinse bin.
I always carry 2 gallons of water.1278PA Thanks this. -
When I first got back into trucking in 2012 I tried to stock food in the truck, snacks, bread and sandwich fixings, anything that didn't require a cooler. I still spent a lot on food at truck stops. I spent about $200 a week all told and ballooned to 45 lbs overweight, the heaviest I had ever been.
Then I got serious about trying to eliminate high fructose corn syrup in my diet and only eating what I stocked in the truck. I bought a 12v cooler and started eating a lot of salad and fresh fruit. That dropped my budget to about $80-100 a week.
Now I have eliminated all added sugar and eat mostly organic fruit and vegetables. My budget is now about $120 a week.
I dropped 35 lbs the first six months without ever feeling hungry. I'm back to my "athletic" weight now, having a ball working flatbed at the age of 60, and haven't had a cold or flu in over three years. No supplements, no bull pucky. -
I go to walmart twice a week. I buy a 5 dollar fully cooked chicken and Ramen noodles. I break the chicken up and put it into bags and make soup throughout the week. Sometimes I'll buy a premade salad or some crackers. Once a week I might stop for some fast food, usually at wendy's and usually a triple stack.
I grew up with very little money throughout my 20's and have realized that the next day will come no matter how much you spend on food. Everyone used to tell me, "when you start making more money you will change your habits out there". Rubbish I say! I'm just as hardcore as ever!
On a side note, I still do buy sugar drinks. I'd say they cost me double a week what I spend in food, hahah. Pick your poison I suppose.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
You can try to save on truck stop purchases, and I do. But some days you're just too darned tired and/or bz or maybe you want something you haven't got on the truck. I spend about $100 a week on the road for ALL expenses.Sometimes more, sometimes less. I'm not up against it and FORCED to be frugal. If I were, I COULD be more frugal. Frankly, I'd rather be comfortable than frugal. I go 2-3 days without a truck stop other than fuel, then other times I buy coffee, meals, pogie bait, etc. A microwave, a coffee pot and a hot plate, with some ability to carry refrigerated goods will make you largely food independent. And sure as heck, you can save yourself money that way, I do. But then you go get a shower and look at hot, fresh roasted whole chicken and think to yourself: "To HELL with what I've got in the truck."
