The best time to drive is at night, but you might not have a choice for a while. You’ll almost certainly be driving in the day during training. I like to sleep at night so I drive during the day. I don’t think there will be less computers in 2 years, probably a lot more. There’s already trucks that can drive themselves, but I don’t think they’ll be getting rid of drivers completely any time soon. Trains are on rails and they still have conductors…

Well in this economy it’s hard to have a life regardless. Like im not happy ill be working 70 hours a week but hopefully i can squeeze in 10 hours of entertainment or so. I have heard of people talking months off and staying on the books so hopefully that’s an option. Ik i can listen to music n audiobooks and i believe call people? And talk over the headset all day so eh it can’t be so bad. Ideally id just work 6 months or so and take a vacation to another country or something for a month etc seems like it would be interesting and i would save a ton of money by living in the truck full time. At least way better than any other even half realistic option i can see in life. Definitely not coming close to breaking 1k a week with any other non back breaking job i could realistically obtain.

God i hope that #### doesn’t come too quickly. I am already very annoyed that im gonna have to drive automatic because manuals are being phased out. You aren’t allowed to have any fun or control at all. Not too mention the nanny bs and beeps etc. i hate machines that do things themselves
Like I'm supposed to be the operator lmao. Like how jerky and slow autos are in low gears it’s dumb.

Wow that’s sad. Ik I worked at a gate for awhile and felt bad for truckers having to wait overnight for shipping and recieving to file paperwork despite telling them to be there at a time where nobody is there.
Unfortunate it seems that having a #### you attitude seems to be encouraged in this field

Truck stop shower are not gender specific. Every privet room is generally the same.

I'm a rookie with only 1 year in the industry, before I got my CDL, I thought truck driving was just driving a freaking truck, delivering goods, what's so hard about that right? I wanted to try everything, Dry Van, flatbed, Tanker, car hauler, hell even cattle hauler!! I wanted to stay out for months, BUT! After 4 months driving on the road I quickly realized how hard it was, it's not really the driving part, it's every crap that comes with it, tight *ss space to deliver too, back out on the road to get out when you're done, the freaking mountains, parkings, traffics, no real food options and much more. Unless you're an introvert who have no friends, and no family ( husband/wife and kids ), you're gonna be miserable on the road, even if you are those things, you might still get lonely, people social are creatures. A good balance would be to be out 3 weeks and in 5 days, but who know, everybody is different, you might like trucking we never know.

You’re gonna have a hard time finding anyone that will let you take a month off. I can take two weeks off if I stay out for 14 weeks straight. I think 2 weeks is plenty of time. I used to think I’d want more time off but I found a study that said the ideal vacation length is 7-10 days. Less and it doesn’t feel long enough and more then it starts to feel like just normal and not a vacation. You could go work for 6 months and then quit and take a month off and try to get a better job. I’d recommend that actually, except in this market quitting without another job already lined up is dangerous. My first job I made less than $6 /hr doing flatbed OTR and I quit on my 90th day and went straight to my company now and I’m making 1400 a week take home. Switching companies early on can be a good thing if you do it right, but I’m staying at my current company for at least 1 full year.

Spot on... everybody thinks truckers job is easy.. and they are gonna come out here and live in a Truck full time... it takes years to build up any stamina of living on the road... I did an 11 month stint back in 2021 ... never again
