Certain retail loads that some people may think have a higher value, such as beer, are actually very low in value. This is because, when it is being transported, taxes haven't been applied to the load yet, it's simply raw product.

A load of beer, which could have retail value may be tens of thousands on the shelf, is less than ten thousand in the trailer. A friend who had an operation hauling beer in the '80s (about 30 trucks) had a number of loads lost for various reasons and the value of the load was typically around $9,000.

Heavy haulers and oversize can be hauling some very high dollar loads. Certain machines can be over 1-million new (A Wirtgen 2100 roto-mill is about $1.2-million new). Of course, the value can depreciate rather quickly. If a machine goes to scrap, figure it's value at all of $120 to $140/ ton.

the correct answer, without all the BS, NONE OF YOUR #### BUSINESS. That's how cargo get's stolen, as far as I'm concerned the only people who know, and need to know what my cargo is or worth, is the shipper and the receiver.

You are required to carrier a $100k cargo insurance by law.

My brother's company, my company, and every company I have ever worked for or with have/do carry a million dollar policy.

With some loads you are not just responsible for the cargo but many companies will come after you for lost of revenue or worst lose of production.

If you are carrying and load that is needed to keep a production line going and the load is lost for whatever reason that could lead to an entire factory being shut up. The consignee will hold you liable for that lose of production time and that be a lot more than what the load is worth.

The power generation industry has some high dollar pieces.
A hi pressure turbine for super heated steam can cost 10 million dollars for a baby one that is no bigger then a compact 4 wheeler.
The big ones can run to 30 million.
No real risk for theft as the have no value except for scrap outside a highly regulated industry.
Lost out on a contract to haul Platinum matte after getting to the last 2.
This is the most pure form of concentrate that goes to the actual refinery.
In most ways I am glad we lost out as when it got down to the last 3 we were privileged to info that made me uncomfortable.
The security was not limited to the trucks and escort vehicles but to family members of the drivers and all who could conceivably have any influence on security.
Apparently the Chinese triad had in the past kidnapped a security crews kids and stolen a 55 000lbs load valued at $3 million by forcing them to comply.
After that they got rid of the rent a cops and got really anal about this.
Who need to get involved in that type of thing.

Not true. Most cargo theft is an inside job maybe the warehouse worker got some information. And if I recall don't you haul containers?? On every work order, packing list or shippers bill of laden it has the commodity and most of the times the load value.
