Please Please please think about this idea. I had two driver in the last 6 months who had to retire because the truck was too much for them, they have neck injuries from vehicle accidents and the bouncing around just too the toll on both of them. One of them is now facing surgery because of the truck, I had a very good seat installed for him last year and it didn't do much for him. So please think about this carefully, it sucks not being able to do much but be in pain, I know first hand. Oh I know a few Uber/lyft driver and they make very good coin. One is making $2500 a week but he hustles, I think the guy just goes home to sleep for 8 hours and back out on the road.
Okay I’ll answer this for you: I’m a rookie, company pay me 50 cents right now: 42 cents is taxed and 8 cents is per diem- no tax - as an allowance. Last week I’ve completed Over 3,000 miles, 4 trips, which equates to roughly 1430+per diem 248. You won’t drive over 3,000 miles every week though, sometimes only 2,000 miles, 2,200 miles, 2,600 miles, etc.
Get your license through a school and then go work for a company. Don't get stuck with your starter company
Those schools typically cost a fortune though, at least for an “accredited” one, whatever that means. I remember JB Hunt once saying they wouldn’t touch me because I didn’t use one of their precious “accredited” schools. The $5000-$10000 deals at community colleges are not the only game in town.
