Were did you get the max log time is 8.75 we have 14 hours to get in 11 hours of driving then once our 11 hours of driving is up or most of the time the 14 hour clock is up we have to take a 10 hour break.

We can log as many hours of work that we want but we can not drive once our 70 hours is up.

However not all of us are that dumb while the lumper is unloading we go to the sleeper birth or if the company allows off duty that way we can reserve our 70 hours.

I log as many driving hours as possible I only log 15 min for fuel, pre trip, checking in with the shipper or reciver, dropping and hooking, bathroom breaks, I only shower once I stop for the night but it may not be ever night. I grab food while I am stopped for the fueling.
Once I log the fuel break or checking in with the shipper or reciver the rest of the time goes to the sleeper or off duty depending on what it is. It also depends on the company I had premission to go off duty for eating.

If you want to drive a truck you better have nothing else but annual income on your mind. Some benefits that you might want to consider are you won't have a commute time or a commute expense. Depending on your alternative employment this could be a substantial savings. Also, working for a company that gives per diem tax treatment at the pay stub can substantially lower taxable income especially if they don't "charge" you for this by lowering your CPM.

I have less than one year driving experience and I am with my third carrier because I knew the first two were not a good fit. I get to spend two or three nights at home each week. I am working every hour I am out. We average 2 hours loading and two hours unloading for each load and I do two loads per day average. I get paid percentage of load. I make 600 to 800 take home pay per week. I usually get about 700 take home pay per week on about 900 to 1000 gross.

That is 700/24hours per day minus 10 hours sleep per day (which I often don't get) = 14 times 5 days = 70 hours per week and my best case take-home pay per hour is just $10. But, I can make that $10 per hour on virtually unlimited hours per week. McDonalds won't generally let you work overtime. I could do the math to lower my wage to meet the time and a half equivalency but I'm lazy and you get the point hopefully anyway.

I drive because I like the relative freedom and I have few other options.

    Bro,
If the job was a day in day out ground hog day 8.75 is what you would get. 8.75 times 8 equals 70 and every day after you drop/earn 8.75. And I used the two 15 min period because one for a pretrip and one because the avg length of haul (probably aroud 700-800miles)will have you at a shipper or reciever once a day. Anyway, I was being generous with the amount of driving time.

Most of what you wrote I do too. However (and I'm not trying to be Mr. legal) if your truck is in the dock ALL that time is on line 4 regardless if you are in the sleeper birth. My point is, OTR drivers work a whole lot more than we show and I gave him the high end of earnings. It only takes a week in this business to get that idea.

Do I need to send you my address.
    Im just kidding.

nonetheless the 37cents per mile is HHG at werner, not hub. So you never really make 24.05 an hr unless you avg over 65mph because if your lucky HHG will only drop 5% of the miles it takes to run a trip. But I think the original poster wanted an avg per hr worked. And that is really hard to define in trucking.
