If you are looking for a used windshield you might have a problem getting it installed. The auto glass place I deal with refuses to install used glass at all. They dont want the liability.

    SingingWolf Thanks this.

Yep! After a couple of season-cycles mine get so pitted that I kind of want a reason for new glass.

I met a guy through CL. He replaced the windshield in my F-150 for $140 and did a great job. I wasn't there a hour. He worked for Safelite for 12 years and went out on his own cutting out a lot of the overhead. He works out of his pickup and would probably need a couple days advance notice to get your glass. He might have an instant supplier, I don't know? He lives outside Knoxville, TN so if one hits the truckstops there I bet you can get it close to that price. Hammers Auto Glass 865-387-0650. I don't know the guy other than that. Just passing on a way to save a hundred or two.

My old boss replaced half the windshield in his Freightliner Columbia for $120 installed in El Paso. Brand new and he went to where the truck was parked.

    NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!

Never use your insurance for a windshield replacement. It will show up as a claim on your insurance (duh) and they will jack up your rates! The increase over the next year or so will be more than paying for the repair in cash.

Less than 3/4 of an inch crack is legal to run. (Am I correct internet gods?)

More than that is a fine better than or equal to replacement costs. Coming up on Blitz inspection week, and some states doing pre-blitz inspections (Illinois. cough cough) attend to it ASAP!

    What???

I've had maybe six windshield replaced, all done by insurance and never appeared as a claim that would jack up my rates nor did my rates ever go up for this reason.

I've also had glass replaced without rates going up . There is no deductible for glass . I have never heard of anyone paying a dime for glass replacement .

Maybe they changed it due to complaints and competition. But it happened to my wife.

Depens on policy. Sometimes replacement is free with a new veh. for a couple of years.
My 2002 Jeep Liberty, i'd have to pay deductable $250, which is almost cost of windshield. Now have a used 2012 Jeep Liberty with a $10 month extra for windshield replacement. Progressive policies.
The really bad part... Progressive only allows 15 miles towing. My agent called them. Sucks when your car is broke in the middle of the Az desert.
    Good luck fixing your windshield.
