No, to be an EBOR it has to tie into the trucks ECM. Rand McNally makes one that does as another posted already pointed out but it is not the same one as most users get (the TND 530 or TND 720), it is called the TND 760 (http://www.randmcnally.com/product/tnd-760?gclid=CJfM1fDgiLoCFasWMgodrG8ALw).

Electronic logging does not equal EBOR.

Thanks I kinda figured. That is way too intrusive. Government might as well just own the truck, maintain it, and pay us. Its all our own fault because no one stands up figuring someone else will.

Sorry but don't see how this is intrusive. Only difference is that a computer is used for logging and not a pen and paper. You still have to turn that paper log in or show it to DOT. Same information just different format.

Of, big difference is it takes a 2nd and in many cases a 3rd person to falsify a log.

I don't think getting violations is going away with e-logs, although form and manner may be lessened, but getting checked while sitting still while still logged in on the wrong line should be, and it could happen.

A friend tells me his logs have been edited putting him in violation or making one worse without his knowledge, I would have voted with my feet at that point, but he is still there.

Oh, working under the gun and being in a hurry is safer, too. Accidents while driving aren't the only ones that happen.

Also, in case of machine error, and location can be wrong, who is at fault? I'd guess the driver that did nothing wrong.

Thermo-king in Chicago works on them(Qualcomm) doing repairs and installs, and it definitely isn't trouble free, there are times when there are many failures waiting for repairs, as related by office and technicians.

There are also experienced drivers leaving trucking because of e-logs being the final straw. E-logs aren't coming where I work yet, and I hope that they don't anytime soon. If I can go local and avoid the hassle, I will do that when the time comes.

It seems that 700 bucks plus monthly costs is the floor and it has been said that Qualcomm won't work with small companies.

ELogs don't bother me that much but, what does bother me is the Government's rule about putting all in one bucket... You know, the old saying that one bad apple destroys the rest. I believe in personal responsibility and there are plenty of laws, more than we need, to handle those that break the law. I personally don't like being thrown in the same bucket as the one's that cause law makers to propose new laws. The truth is, they propose new laws so they can go down in history as the one that proposed it, wrong or right.

The Elog's are better for me only because I make mistakes on paper too much... That being said, I still don't believe the Government has the right to impose a new law on me just because someone else broke the law.

I agree and if it ever does IMO it will never filter down to single truck operators.......think about it, who will you report to and who has access to the data to make "necessary adjustments".......you do, you are the do all man including being the safety officer. It would be a complete waste of time for them to try and manage single truck operators and small fleets......besides they want to go after the big guys cause they got the bucks to cover those big payola scams.....err I mean fines, my bad!!

I don't like the seat belt law either... I wear it because that is my choice but, I don't feel the Government has any right to mandate that we all wear it. Sure, the states do and I have no problem with that but, me NOT wearing a seat belt has NO bearing on anyone else, no matter what happens. I had this discussion with EMT's some years back and they said it effects their job, due to not having the proper equipment when they arrive at seen. I said: "you bring ALL your equipment, no matter what the accident is!"
