And that my friend is the "free market" working right there.... Nothing wrong with that at all, in fact, that is what I desire to see more of, not less of....

Electronic logs and driver harassment: Where do the vendors stand?
As reported in Land Line, FMCSA published its supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking for electros in the Federal Register this past Friday during MATS week. One of the manufacturers of such devices, a company called VDO (part of Continental Corp.) was at MATS to discuss its RoadLog products. Associate Editor David Tanner spoke to a VDO official.

Read BBB's post,,,he is talking about he Industry mandating them than the FMCSA.. I understand that the FMCSA are the ones that mandated the HOS but this subject is on the ELD"S/EOBR's I have no problem if a carrier wants to use them or not,,,my argument is against the Gov. mandated in the name of safety, when that is not true whatsoever...

The device VDO Roadlog sounds alot like my app. My app does use gps from the phone itself to track where I am at the time but, I can turn that off and input the location manually. If memory serves, the FMCSA will require that the device be connected to the ECM to track when truck moves and stops. I don't think this device does that but maybe. A blue tooth device for around $50 can be purchased to work with my app. on my phone that will meet requirement.

you reference csa swcores, then you say you are against govt mandate
CSA is nothing other than govt mandate via bogus safety claims

Not sure what you hangup with me is but, I am completely, 100%, against Gov. mandate's,,,,when they are unconstitutional. I have mentioned this in many posts, on many different threads. When I was referring to BBB's post, it was in reference to his statement regarding the Trucking Industry mandating ELD's before the Gov. does. When I referred to your post with the Land Line article, I was talking specifically about that device,,,not sure where I advocated Gov. mandate?

    nothing against you

its that most drivers dont realize who and what we are up against, industry-wide

its not just about "i got a good job, i get good miles", one must step back and look at the big picture, where the industry has come from, where it is and where its heading

and its looking bleak for truck drivers, with the ATA and congress tightening the screws around our livelihood, all in the name of safety

its not a free market, its rigged, and the sooner we realize it, the better for all of us

just look at it as a snowball coming down a tall mountain

So many folks somehow got their heads wrapped around the idea that Elogs have anything to do with safety. This is pure bull hockey. It has always been about enforcing compliance. Now, whether that improves safety, who knows. But while the HOS regs were heavily promoted by FMCSA to promote safety, I have hardly read more than a peep out of them that the primary motivation for Elogs is safety. They have no problem stating it is for regulatory compliance.
