Well I'm almost 42 and stuck in that dead end low paying job - and this looks like the last industry that will take a chump like that and give him a stab at making 4 figures a week. Everything else is sucked dry. Most of the jobs around here pay the same, and it ain't much. If you were one of the few who got into the dwindling boss man executive class, you're doing okay I guess - but for the large majority under them there's only crumbs left. Well I'm not in that executive club, and I guess they're not looking to hire many folks like me anymore anyways because I've learned enough by my age to not believe their BS. So here I am - ready to stick myself behind the wheel and make what I can before they figure out how to replace me with automated driverless rigs.
After that, guess I'll just go fishing!
How much experience is "experience"

Well i dont know how other companies work, these other guys know more about that than me.
In my case with my company the miles are always there. Some guys may not be protecting their hours, wasting time on duty not driving. Some guys wont drive unless the weather is nice, wont drive at night, stop a lot and fiddle dick around, etc.
In my case we are moving every single day. If we arent we are paid layover, so you can imagine it doesn't happen very often. It might happen tomorrow actually. My codriver is sick. We will see.
If youre willing to work you can start out making pretty good. Lots of lazy folks that just want the easy money. As a driver and a worker, you'll be looking pretty good I think. It is for me anyway. -
Whats interesting is I did labor before and made almost nothing. But once i had a CDL in hand and started driving, my labor pay works out to be about $30 an hour. Lol crazy. I still get miles too.

Sounds like my plan - I just want to jump in and get going. Not scared of the dark or bad weather or any of that, and I'm not trying to hang around truck stops eating burgers all day. I eat a light two meals a day and that's all I need.
So I take it they have bluetooth in those trucks nowadays? Because I plan on being a podcast listening fool out there.Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -
Some trucks get pretty fancy. If you are chising between two companies and one offers an APU, go with that company.
If you podast on your phone you and AUX your phone to the trucks stereo and have it on speakers nice n loud. I do that with my Pandora sometimes, it's great.
