I was looking at an "either or" situation not both.

I'd charge detention on top of unload if the receiver took an unreasonable amount of time to check in the product. Grocery warehouses are the typical culprits here... I have been held up 4+ hours several times to check in a straight pull of identical product (1 line item). That's unreasonable during normal receiving hours and I would bill for it.

    Cetane+ Thanks this.

I got those exact figures as a company driver. $100 for unload, $18/hr after 2 hours detention. And this was for FFE, who's never been known to pay well. I'm afraid you're priced miles under market as an O/O.

You need to know how many product codes on these pallets. Also are the pallets straight in or turned ? Makes a difference if you're using a hand jack which won't fit under a turned pallet. Does consignee use the shippers pallets ? Grocery warehouses sometimes use their own little version of a pallet, so you have to transfer from the shippers pallet to their pallet. In a perfect world, you'd have about 22 pallets, loaded straight in, able to use an electric pallet jack at the consignee with boo-coo room on the dock to stage and one product code. Nice clean unload. Done in 30 min, right ? The checker slaps his tickets on the pallets as you unload them, signs your papers and you're out of there and at the local T/A eating bacon and eggs in no time !

Then on the other hand, you might have turned pallets, a manuel pallet jack, product that needs to be transferred, a checker that disappears for 30 min at a time, a clerk behind the office window who is busy texting her stud and in no hurry to process your paperwork, a yard that is so congested it takes you 30 min to get out from the dock and off the premises and 8 trucks in line to clear the security shack.
