An idling engine uses .8 to 1 gallon per hour, so I’m curious how much a Carrier APU uses per hour? The thing is loud and annoying, every bit as bad as a reefer.
How much fuel does an APU use?

It varies but between .1 and .3 gallons an hour depending on power and cooling load. As for it being loud have the mufffler checked my thermoking is quiter then my MX13 and vibrates less then any reefer ive used.

The trucks I've had use 05. gallon per hour when idling. I don't know about Carrier APUs. I never had to suffer with one of those.Another Canadian driver, Rideandrepair, flood and 2 others Thank this.

If the fuel consumption is that low, it will pay for itself relatively quickly. The APU has like 2286 hours on it. I'm finding that you have to use the sleeper curtain to get the real cooling effect from the APU.OhNoTerry, Another Canadian driver, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this.

Hmm, the Dynasys and Rigblasters l had were very high RPM under HVAC load. Sounded more like 2 stroke lawn equipment compared to the nice medium idle hum of a TK Tri-Pac IMO. I wouldn't be surprised of they all use almost a gallon an hour also with full HVAC load honestly.

I'd like a Carrier but it seems like they are due for an update. Plus the incab box is too tall for the KW sleeper according to some shops l talked to they had to use spacers etc. to fit it.Another Canadian driver and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Agreed. I have a dynasys and they claim less than half a gallon per hour, I'm not buying that. My guess is closer to 1 gallon.
Personally if I didn't have a newer emissions truck, I wouldn't have an APU.RockinChair, cke, D.Tibbitt and 4 others Thank this. -
The tripack on my truck averages around .15 gallons an hour unless its stupid hot and i have the AC cranked to max where its .32 an hour. As for the cooling check if there is a vent under the bunk. Sometimes they get flipped closed and block airflow.Another Canadian driver, Rideandrepair, Accidental Trucker and 1 other person Thank this.

It is a nice unit and you save thousands over the main two brands. I had the shore power option so l would plug it in at FedEx where they had plugs for van block heaters. That was nice, free Air conditioning.Another Canadian driver, Rideandrepair, Wasted Thyme and 1 other person Thank this.
