Just now saw this interesting thread. I'll bet you get as many different answers as there are different drivers.
But I'm not all that sure that pay is the deciding factor in if a driver is happy or not. Of course it is important. If you don't make enough to pay your bills, raise your family and maintain a decent life style while still putting money away, then you aren't gonna be happy.
But once the true financial needs are met, I believe there is a lot of other stuff that impacts driver satisfaction. Foremost and primarily, how the driver is treated by the company.
This will include everything from equipment, to idle time, to home time, to being dispatched in a reasonable manner, to be spoken to as if you are a valuable asset to the company.
Excellent post RR. The only reason I snipped it was to conserve bandwidth. (Whatever the hell that is.)
Anyhow, I really do like your idea on compensation for a bad driver.
Ain't no need to go gettin' personal here!
Hey, if you can still get into yours, you are doing better than I am!
Me too!And I'm sure there are a lot of us just like you. Shoot, if a person doesn't love this job, he/she really needs to go do something else. For ALL of our protection.
I believe this is being done right now. That is why companies like Knight that haul a lot of trash loads, ie: recycle stuff, pays less than companies that haul - oh say hot bulk oil or the like.
It all ties in to inflation. So the folks who are making minimum wage this year, and were making minimum wage two or three years ago are now making more money. That is IF their hours have not been cut.
But the inflation rate just keeps going up.

So just what is a reasonable answer to this conundrum? I'm sure there are a lot of folks a whole lot smarter than I am that are asking the same question.
How much is enough?
