I always have mine on. I run the squelch up to cut the noise out. When I run up on one of those #######es with all that echo and roger beeps I cut my rf gain back till I figure he is out of range, which usually only takes about half as long as he thinks that garbage gets out. That is one reason why a lot of drivers don't run radios these days plus too many drivers can't speak enough English that other drivers will talk to them.

If you are referring to using a cell phone without a blue tooth you are you are correct. But it is not against the law in any state as long as you use a blue tooth. Some companies are forbidding their drivers to use cell phones but not states, yet anyways.

I see plenty of mic cords hanging or radio sitting on dash, and when you tell them about a flat, something ahead, bring it over... their all deaf?

I can understand not wanting to hear other conversations, or anoying loud echo radios. But not to hear whats imediatly around me would drive me insane. Turn the RF gain down, so you at least hear a mile, by the time you decide its a conversation you don't want to hear their already gone.

I agree truck drivers are using their CB less I see it all the time approaching an accident they turn the radio on and ask what's the hold up is a construction or an accident if you had the radio turned up so you could hear it you would've known 5 miles ago about the accident and could've taken the opportunity to stop and fuel up or find another route. These big 90 car accidents are the fault of the truck drivers I'm not saying that you caused the accident I'm saying all of the truck drivers going down that road should've warned oncoming traffic for miles about the big pileup. We are the sheepdogs of the road, The professionals hearing about the accident from our other truck driver buddies going the opposite way and bringing Traffic to a slow stop before they ended up with 90 cars in the pile up is our responsibility. Turn your Bluetooth off turn your radio up and turn the squelch up you don't have to listen to all the garbage that you don't want to listen to but at least turn it up high enough so you can hear about accidents construction and just general traffic.

It's a must have thing in a chip truck, we have to communicate with other drivers, guard shacks and mill equipment in the lumber and paper mills.
There's a lot of chatter driving the I-5,mostly on ch 17.
Log trucks, chip trucks , other local drivers and I-5 corridor freighters are all on 17 here in the NW but a lot of OTR guys don't seem to know that.

Most drivers now days have it turned down because they think their truck won't move without them being on the cell phone.

My truck doesn't move without the CB being on. One of the frustrating things is skip talkers, it used to be, they'd be on the off channels, now they just sit on 19 and run their mouth, had a guy today in the Mojave Desert talking and it sounded like he was next door, I was in Georgia, that crap gets old.

I am up in the northeast and regularly pick up FL, AL, TX and a lot of Southern states. It droves me nuts hearing these guys trying to make contact with people on 19. I wish they would stay on other stations. I get a lot of it when I travel thru mountains in NH, VT, and upstate NY.

Well I can tell you this about a CB. It kept me from being involved in the accident on 94 in Michigan the other day. After speaking with some of the drivers that were involved they told me they either had no CB or had it off. Would not leave home without it.

EXCELLENT POST!!!! And I will add when you are running two lane in the mountains you really need it on! Our area is rural and all the roads are curvy. When there is a traffic accident with road blockage, traffic can back up fast! Drivers not running a radio can round a curve be in deep doo doo if they are unaware of that accident!!
