No but i have seen enough guys brag about 70 - 80k, and they still have to be away from home, manage all expenses. This is my view from o/o's i have talked to. Obviously my view can change with time, experience and new information.
So far from what i have heard it isnt easy clearing 100k as a o/o 1 truck operation.
how much money?

I wouldn't want to hit that $75k tax bracket. What is it 31%? Ouch, I'd have to start making "updates" and "repairs" once I hit $76k.
Lite bug Thanks this. -
You're 27 yrs old
youve been driving less than a year. why do you care about o/o anyways?
I met met a guy who clears 250k a year last month.....the most successful o/o I've met are the guys that have this down to a science.
do you THINK an o/o who clears more than a 100k is wasting his time talking to you? No, he's securing the loads, on the phone, driving, planning, preparing and making it happen. -
Sometimes, it is not just about the money. A lot of owner ops are broke because they may make 70k but spend like they make 100k. Some make much more because they learned how to work the business.
An owner op in my mind is someone that has their own authority AND truck(s). Not leased onto someone else. Yes even Landstar.Lite bug, Cranky Yankee and peterbilt_2005 Thank this. -
I'm all set to clear $40k this year and still have plenty of time to TTR..... Lol.

icsheeple Thanks this. -
Would love to see the numbers of like 50 o/o's with authority and see what they are netting.

just like anything else some people are better at managing money then others
dont even need to be an O/O
we have 10 drivers one guy declares bankruptcy
one guy has a 20 acre farm all paid off
we all make $70K as company driversUKJ and double yellow Thank this. -
Did you mean "super broke"?
jk
I check The Greenhorn Landstar Chronicles almost every day for updates, thanks for sharing your experience's.
I hope in five years to become an o/o, mainly for the freedom in choosing amongst a huge array of loads and being able to take months off when I can, to pursue other interests.
After being a company driver I want to try running with Landstar, hopefully with my own trailer. I might even stop there, hopefully I don't. The rewards are much higher when working for yourself.
IF I do fail, then it's company driver for a year or two, lease on with somebody, then try again.
Heck if I decide I don't like, or can't drive a truck, I would like to try hiring someone to drive the truck and I can get the loads for them.
YOLO jk
I have nothing to lose, my parents couch is always available.Last edited: Apr 3, 2015
