Any cop will tell you it's a matter of his/her personal discretion.

Yeah, it's pretty much each officer's decision. They can technically give you a ticket for 1 mph over if they really wanted to be a jerk about it.

I know that New Mexico and California are borderline insane when it comes to the speed limits. A buddy of mine got pulled over and was issued a ticket for doing 31 in a 30 in New Mexico.

I would be very careful and stay close to the limit in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Those are the states I have seen tend to be the most picky.

Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, and Oklahoma seem to be about middle of the range, I'd stay 5 over or less in these states.

Texas, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, New York, Tennessee, and most of the northwestern states are more open generally, you'll likely be okay if you run 5 - 8 over, but again it's up to the individual officer.

If you run to ontario canada , most 2 lane country highways are 50 mph and i run 61 all the time no problem, the big highways are 62 limit and car and trucks can usually run 75, although if you are much over 70 mph in a truck they can nail you for not having speed limiter, limiter must be set to 65 mph

In the northeast if your not doing 10 over your holding up the flow of traffic ...we're always in a rush .

Glad I run in the South East.....most is 70 zone and they rarely look at you at 75.
I run Florida every week and down there at 75 the cars are still blowing by me.
Unless you get over 80 the cops don't act like they care.

CA I usually run 59, on smaller highways like the 395 in some stretches I will hit 62, last night was going 62 most of the way in oregon, limit is 55 and I did pass a couple troopers who didnt budge but im probably taking a chance still since like it was said its up to the trooper, now a trooper giving a ticket for 1mph over I would fight in court and use my legal services I pay for weekly.

In NY I usually run 75 and never get bothered. Even when I stretch it to 80 I have had troopers pass me and not even look at me. I have had a few times at night when I'm really running and passed a bear in the median and never came after me, they could have been sleeping though.
