landstar made $64.8 million this quarter.
while they are a public company someone holds a majority and is the owner operator of the company.
so a success full owner operator needs to earn between $50,000 net to $256 million net annually

How much should a "real" lease operator make?
The only types that try and place an across the board pigeon holed value on the individual is the government.
This thread has to go down as one of your silliest one's yet. LOL

I would like to thank everyone on this thread who posted constructive answers to this question. As I take my business forward it is good to know what other truckers (whether owner-operators, company drivers or somewhere in-between) are doing and how their models work. It has been a good learning experience. I am always glad to learn more about the industry and of different avenues and methods that may be of benefit to my company. I always hope that anything I post on here can be of benefit to someone.
Regarding the original question, many of us tried to answer it to the best of our abilities which most of us accepted would be different for each driver/company. The question of there being a dollar amount that can define an owner-operator is extremely subjective and not the right way to define an owner-operator. I would agree that someone who owns their equipment and has their own authority is an owner-operator regardless of the amount of money they make. That is what it takes, someone who is willing to go out on their own. Many owner operators don't make as much as some company drivers, but they are their own boss. Their ambition, work ethic, decision making and experience will largely shape their financial outcome. If this is the definition that is accepted then a dollar amount is inconsequential, other than the fact that the company will be successful or unsuccessful. Until that company goes broke or is sold that trucker is an owner-operator.chimbotano Thanks this. -

How much should an o/o make per mile
-
Well none of the esteemed members ever gave us any hard numbers.
I've noticed amongst the esteemed members, it tends to go something like this---
1) If you don't make as much money as I do, you're not a real O/O.
2) If you don't drive the same kind of truck as I do, you're not a real O/O.
3) If you don't pull the same kind of freight that I do, you're not a real O/O.
Here we are 2 weeks later still at square 1, with Dan England's number of $1.05 million (profit) weekly as the mark.48Packard and Woodchuck88 Thank this. -
I can't wait for the next intellectual thread question, maybe "What is the best color, no BS or dodging just a hard answer for the best color!"
