Well if I lived closer I would for sure being trying to undercut him! He sounds a little on the high side IMO.
Not like way over but a little on the high side........just my opinion....based on what I have read so far.

Don't try to calculate someone elses expenses because no two operations are exactly the same. You might give him 20 more cents amile, but that 20 cents might not go straight into his pocket.
Best way to pay is either 70-77% of gross or flat rate plus accesorials, but the 500 mile deadhead would kill the rate. Best rate would be 1.85 (1.75 lowest) all miles plus fuel surcharge and all accesorials. Also, that 1.5 hours he sits in your yard, pay him for that. 75 dollars paid at 50 per hour. Charge customer detention at 75 per hour after the first two billed in 15 minute increments.insertnamehere, Dominick253, truckthatpassesyouby and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don't even like it when brokers/customers bring up fuel costs to me. It makes very very little difference IMO. Heck, Pennsylvania is always high.....and if you try to avoid fueling in PA (or any place for that matter) you pay on your IFTA filing.
1.99 per gallon is rare and most are still 2.11 to 2.40 a gallon and that is peanuts in the scheme of things.
I am speaking of the Midwest and Northeast though....whoopNride and truckthatpassesyouby Thank this. -
I guess my question wasn't clear. I'm not asking what Toothless Larry from Big Nutz Trucking needs to make. I want to know what you O/Os in general would want in this situation per mile to be happy raise a family and save enough to retire.
He doesn't wait at my yard. There is ALWAYS a trailer loaded strapped ready to go. All he has to do is drop and hook in my yard.
My customers unload immediately, they are always waiting for the load. Sometimes they take the load off our trailer and put it right on theirs for final delivery.
There is only one stop. We only sell full loads.
There is no tarping. All you need is 14 - 4" straps.spectacle13, Dominick253 and truckthatpassesyouby Thank this. -
Well lets just say that is a dream load and that should be considered IMO. No tarps, not heavy, no chains/binders, bla bla bla....
I would say shop around if money is the issue....
If not... pay him and pass the costs along....Dominick253 Thanks this. -

3.30 per loaded? Is that what you are asking if I would run it at...?
-
If your cost is 1.50 a mile you're making .15 a mile. I was offered a dedicated deal about 6 months ago along the same lines. Except I needed a special setup to haul the product. I would say 2.00 a mile minimum if it was me.
and that's just an initial guess. -
Where is it located? Honest weekly mileage?
You want an honest answer give us honest numbers to work with. 1.65/1.75 mile all miles plus fuel surcharge is good enough assuming tols are minimal/nonexistent. But in the contract include stop pay, detention rates, and any other accesorials. -
