For my compressor to build air from 60 PSI until it purges at 120 it takes a little over four minutes at idle.

Is that good bad or acceptable?

Is that just the truck? If it's the trailer too, it fills the tank, fills the brakes, and at 90 psi, it fills the bags. So a ton of extra volume in all that stuff.

I was always told it needs to build from 50 to 90 PSI in 3 minutes or less at 1000 to 1200 RPM. That method seems to be pretty standard across the board here in Canada, minus a couple provinces/territories. I can't seem to find any info related to US regulations though.

Seems like a long time. I think DOT wants to see gauge building from 85psi to 100psi within 45 seconds.

That's just the truck idling at about 600 or 650 RPMs.

I just checked mine. From low air buzzer (65) on gauge, to purge (120) on guage, took 6 minutes at 6500 idle. 3.5 minutes at 1000 idle. 85 to 100 took 40 seconds at 1000 idle. Compressor is 4 yr old reman Midland tuflo 550 from Freightliner Dealer. It cost me $450 Seems to working as good as when new. I’d say yours is working good.
