Is the truck owner an old friend or something like that? If it's just someone you work for, no way I'd pay for the repairs.

When you work for someone, you allow them to make a profit from your labor, they assume the risk.

I wouldn't pay because it's gonna cost you $10,000+... It's a lot of work but now you know why most companies go with autos. They don't have to worry about this stuff lol

Rebuilding top end because of low oil pressure? You sure you didn't mishear ( after all that headphone noise) and they guy said bottom end? Bet you did!

    Coffey Thanks this.

Kinda like the guy that doesn't see the ### end of his trailer burning up from a brake fire because he never scans his mirrors!

A friend bought a nice t800 daycab for dumptruck at an auction. Truck started up and ran fine. It was geared very low, around 1500 rpms at 60mph.

His “friend” offered to drive it back home (about 250 miles). This dude went 85mph all the way back. Couldn’t believe he made it so quickly. When it arrived oil was leaking out and it was blowing thick smoke. Truck had to be rebuilt then and there. If that was my truck....

Well he shouldn't be charging you for the repairs to start with.

On top of that, I'd want to see the histogram off the ECM. Its going to log the RPM history as well as many other things. May even show the mileage/hour meter reading the events occured at. Pair that with logbook entries you may find it wasn't even you that damaged it.

I highly doubt an overspeed would crack a head. More likely just damage valvetrain. Cracks typically come from overheat (coolant or high EGT).

I partially agree. He could do an ECM down load. But we are talking 2800 rpm. He could have dropped a valve, which would slam in to the head by the piston severely damaging it or cracking it. I mean trucks are screaming at 2100

True. I was refering more to cracks that just form in the head not due to impacts.
