Didn't know about the holliday pay, do you have to furnish any other benefits or anything like social security?
Here if I run a gravel truck 6 days a week, I will bring home after taxes 28 to 3000 a week, on any job that has any government money in it, no benefits though.

It is called GST short for Goods and Services Tax.
Yes BC is an expensive place to live, but if people are making good money they have a great lifestyle here.

They know something that no one else does if they can gross 2400 a week on a truck with a hired driver on it and make it work. sounds fishy, or them drivers think they are getting 25%. Numbers are numbers and generally tell the truth.
Think about it, insurance, tags, tires, fuel, oil, parts, and pretty every other expense a truck has, doesn't care if you gross 2400 or 10,000.
Now if it happens to be high paying short hauls, a guy gets a break on fuel and maintenence, but then it comes down to a part time gig too.

I pay their medical 100%, and they can buy into a group dental and group life insurance program if they want to. It is a lot cheaper than if they got dental and life on their own. I also give them free coveralls both summer and insulated winter ones, and a service picks them up and washes them twice a month, plus up to $400 a year footwear allowance if they bring me a receipt. Christmas bonus is a $1000 gift card to Save on Foods, but they can also get a gas station card if they work me with the local Chevron station because I worked out a deal with them, and they get 5% off everything they buy at the Chevron from gas/diesel, oil, snacks etc. Heck i do little things to like lend them a company pickup to move, tow their boat occasionally, haul some firewood, etc. I bet those mega carriers don't do that sort of stuff. I also made my drivers a promise that they will never be away from home for more than 5 nights, and put up in decent motels, and fed. My staff are also my friends, not just a number. I own 3 houses in town I rent out to staff, and 2 employees actually live in my basement suite and pay cheap rent. I find they will do anything for me no questions asked, because they respect me as much as i respect them. My seasonal employees tend to come back every year as well that work in the pit. They work hard about 7 or 8 months a year, then are laid off every winter when i shut the pit down. My heavy equipment operators often get laid off all winter to, but are ready to go again every spring, very low turn over for seasonal employees.

Each driver decides for himself. Cost of living & expenses vary wildly across the country.

Sounds like you have a good thing going, and can keep good hands with the way you treat them.

    The trucks serve their quarries.

OK, that would be a whole different ball game, as far as the owner goes. I ran dump trucks a lot even owned a couple, sounds like the owner is running them pretty cheap, maybe making the dif up on the gravel price.
The last time I drove a genuine quarry owned truck, was back around 90 or maybe 91, and I sure wasn't working for 600 a week then, but I worked long hours too.

I personally know a guy that has 5 trucks... Pulls grain trains here in Idaho, 99% local. Between barley amd fertilizer he stays busy all year round, and most of his runs are under 100 miles round trip. I'm not sure what he gets on grain loads but he gets about $10 a ton for fertilizer... Doesnt take many trips to rake in a butt load of cash when you can turn 5 to 7 trips per truck per day. All really nice equipment with custom paint too. Sometimes he even pulls double lead trailers instead of the traditional A-trains
