It should pay more but fellows for dry van a run like that is normally around $3 loaded mile to the operator. Yes there are lots of dry van operators who will gladly cut that down to $1.50 running back home empty and think they're doing great. I did the math on my numbers and I was too low. I'd need whatever it took at 89% to be at $2.50 all miles and would consider it good.
how much would you charge?????

i think if i were bidding that i would probably look for about 2.60 on all miles or 5.20 on loaded miles. at 4-600 miles per day say average of 500 it would give you a average daily gross of about 1300. with low millage days (400) being $1,040 and high millage days (600) being 1,560.

I am in the Northeast and I know some of my friends clear $3.25/mile all miles and they drive less than 100k mile with bad CSA and not much of negotiation experts either. I clear about $1.25/mile because the tras*** behind the scene intercepts the phone calls and answers it by themselves and says the load has been covered, no matter which market I am in. There could be 9 loads to one truck but the con-artist a holes will say either already covered or the rate is $1/mile for example TQL says $600 for 700 miles this morning and JB Hunt at 800-723-3168 (Sandra ) says it has been covered as soon it was posted. There are over 2000 loads in 100 mile radius and over 2 loads to one truck ratio. Total weekly posting were over 16000. That is a good truckers market and how the hell they say $.90/mile and covered as soon posted. Here are the posts

who was it that said something about a sledge hammer and a month of hammering in another thread? .........

As to the OP - it is kind of a conundrum. Does this shipper only need your 1 truck, for pickups Monday through Friday? If so, and you only have the one, yeah, I would say you need to be at at least $5 per loaded mile or a minimum of $800 per day depending on distance. Now let's say there is another carrier that has 10 trucks. He can load one truck per day at this shipper and work on a BACK HAUL (hahaha) or a multiple leg-trip to get them back, and will likely come in at less than your $5 per mile ... Does the freight deliver into a dead zone where there is nothing worth loading on any outbound lanes? If yes, this will make your decision easy as the smartest option would be to deadhead back to the shipper anyway... Just gotta know what you are up against ... It may come down to how good of a job you do delivery wise and communication wise and if you are very good at selling yourself ... Hope it works out for you

you can really charge 5.50 a mile? dang..i cant wait to get a truck

You can charge whatever you like doesn't mean anyone's volunteering to pay it. Competition keeps a check. Dry van moreso than other segments. But if you can learn the clues and figure out some markets then yes they will pay whatever it takes sometimes. Just like when you buy something on eBay and you want it tomorrow instead of next week. There are loads like that every day that carriers make bank on and also there are loads like that every day that suckers haul for nothing cause they don't know any better. I know it sounds crazy to a bunch of naysayers who couldn't book a rate if it smacked them upside the head, and un-experienced onlookers who doubt and probably couldn't either. If everyone could do it every o/o would be profitable and none would ever complain - buying a truck would be like having a money printing machine.

$75/hr + all expenses. Works out to $1830 for me. But it depends.....is this one load every Wed so it screws up my whole week? Then it needs to pay more than if it's a load every day.
