$1.35 a mile should cover all your costs if you watch your spending. After that it is how much time is involved, how much money do you need, and how bad do you want the work? You could do it for $2 a mile. You could do it for $1000 a day. Either one would probably make you money but not as much as picking up watermelons in Georgia and hauling they to PA for 3.50 a mile. But it is consistent and no dispatch necessary I am assuming. Same runs pretty much. If I was looking for this kind of work I would probably go in around $1200 a day which leaves room to negotiate and not take less then 900 a day no matter what. Just not worth it at that point. The margins would be good enough that the consistency of the runs would more than make up for lower rates. 250 days a year at 1200 is 300k and not a lot of single truck guys making that. More important might be how nice are the people to work for and will you be happy or miserable working with them. All the money in the world won't buy satisfaction. Lots of good info in the other posts too, but really you have to know what you want to do and how you are going to do it and then pencil it all together. Seen a lot of promise you this much work and then not deliver and trucker doesn't make much money.
how much would you charge?????
